Okay… I would like to make a speech thing… ABOUT THIS MOVIE “THE LAND BEFORE TIME.”
Without this movie, I literally would not be sitting here drawing today. When I first began drawing, all I drew were dinosaurs and creatures— HEAVILY inspired by this movie… and now when I look back at this movie, I just appreciate the animation and art of it more. I know it’s an old movie, so the quality isn’t the most HD-ish thing in the world, but whenever I look at the movements and expressions, it’s just soooo WELL DONE AND PHENOMENAL LIKE .. I CAN’T. As for the land before time series that came after the original movie, they cannot compare.
This will sound weird, but the death of Littlefoot’s mother is my favorite scene of the entire movie as well as whenever he somehow spiritually communicates to his mother through his heart. I know that it’s a really sad scene, but when I watched this when I was like 4-5, it was probably the first time in my entire life I actually remember feeling emotions when watching a film. Many animated films I’ve watched inspired me artistically when I was a kid, but this was one of the first scenes I’ve probably ever watched in any animated film that actually made me feel sick to my stomach. Back then, I always rewinded back to this scene several times just to get that kick of emotion because it was something I did not feel often. I really LOVED the way the movie was able to leave an emotional impact on me, even if it was really depressing because I was able to feel SOMETHING on an emotional level just from watching this movie. To be honest, this movie also probably gave me a greater understanding about death, mourning, and overcoming it.
I also always cry over the idea about even though someone is no longer with you, they’re still with you spiritually, or in your heart. You can make any character die, and I probably won’t really cry over it unless someone gives a small speech about the importance of the heart. It’s just.. FGHDFKGJHDFFDKGH. GUHGGHGUG. It’s sad when someone physically dies, but the emotional connection that lives on ALWAYS GETS TO ME….. anyways that’s all for now BYE

Amazing essay. That's exactly why I personally think the death of Littlefoot's mom was the saddest and most moving animated scene of my childhood.
I like this drawing too, plus the music box rendition of "If we hold on together" is very beautiful.

i usually don't comment on art. i know this already has a lot of comments and you're probably tired of seeing the same 'oh my feels' repeated over and over again
but this is amazing
the impact of emotion that you felt when you were little
yeah you're doing it
congratulations on achieving this. you should really be proud.

Gaaaaaa forget about Bambis mom...this scene makes me cry still today. I know what you mean, it was the same for me and the movie "Balto" that got e into drawing and the same guy did the music for both movies and both has amazing animation.

Thanks for this nice image, brings back so many memories... I also used to watch this movie all the time, but I had already nearly forgotten until I saw this picture... Reminds me of my grandmother, since I didn't have a videorecorder at home and only used to watch movies at her house...

Gorgeous, and a little sad. Certainly brings back memories. I don't care how sad and depressing the (good and well animated) Don Bluth movies are. They need to air again on the telly when CartoonNetwork aired good movies.

I cried SO HARD during this scene... Every. single. time. Especially since my own mom died. I just start sobbing uncontrollably. Right now, even. I just feel like crying.

I loved it as a kid too, so I can sure understand what you are saying. I think the first one I saw that gave me those crazy emotions you still feel the next day at grade school was Explorers. It wasn't a sad feeling though. I made me fascinated with what more is out there we don't know about.
