Description A fake 'photo' of Brendan Birch's zoology textbook that ended up being super popular on the Alterity Tumblr. Β I feel really bad because a whole lot of Tumblr people seem to think it's a real book!! Alas. I'll be doing more of these in the future along with some 'scans' of Robin's trainer handbook.

(It's fun to have a legit reason to crack out the SAT words)

wait, so which one was lassie? because he didn't have the markings of the domestic one, yet he didn't look like a natural one. was he a cross-breed or something?

Mewitti In reply to PokeSpeBanette [2014-07-19 04:47:15 +0000 UTC]

Maybe! He lived in the wild but had a domestic build. All sorts of possible explanations.

Well done; you've perfectly managed to reproduce the species in a form I would expect to see in a classroom textbook. As a Professor of Pokemon myself, I commend your efforts. I look forward to further work from you on this subject.

Thank you; I do what I can to bring as much realism to the world of Pokemon as possible without losing the magic that makes them special.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 0

dragonkingofthestars [2014-02-27 20:27:10 +0000 UTC]

wait: pokemon are sentient in your world. . .

how the hell do you 'selectively breed' a sentient species?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mewitti In reply to dragonkingofthestars [2014-02-27 21:21:02 +0000 UTC]

Selective breeding doesn't have to mean horrific forced breeding at a daycare center. Often it just means that humans don't like biters or mean-looking Poochies as much, so those Pokemon tend to get passed over or released into the wild. The net result being that human populations tend to have a higher percentage of tamer, cuter-looking doggies living in them since that's what humans prefer. And then the tame cute doggies have kids with the neighbor's tame cute doggies and the cutest of the bunch get kept in the family while the biters get released... repeat that cycle for a few dozen generations and you end up with a city full of chihuahua-Poochies in no time.

Cyander245 In reply to Mewitti [2014-09-18 07:21:45 +0000 UTC]

And that's why dogs are domesticated from wolves. Breeding the wild hate out of them slowly.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

dragonkingofthestars In reply to Mewitti [2014-02-28 04:18:57 +0000 UTC]

ahh, that makes more sense.

Part of the problem i had was that when you said 'selective breeding' i interpreted the sentence into 'force breeding' due to my assocation and understatement of the word 'selective'. My train of though was, "since it's selective, who did the selecting?" as it is we know now it to be Darwin, the Angel of natural selection.
