Description A fake 'photo' of Brendan Birch's zoology textbook that ended up being super popular on the Alterity Tumblr. Β I feel really bad because a whole lot of Tumblr people seem to think it's a real book!! Alas. I'll be doing more of these in the future along with some 'scans' of Robin's trainer handbook.

(It's fun to have a legit reason to crack out the SAT words)

Love your work! Especially this page. Are you doing a page on all of the Pokemon you capture? Or just a select few?

Thank you! I'm not going to do pages for everyone, but I'm gonna try to get a few of them + post some general-purpose Pokemon info.

Some of those differences sounds like what happened to the silver fox when it was domesticated. That's really cool!

Anyway, this is gorgeous. I love biology and zoology and there's nothing I love more than creativity like this.

Mewitti In reply to CrystalTalian [2014-02-19 00:44:41 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!!

The really cool thing is that the silver fox was just doing the same thing that almost ALL animals do when domesticated. Piebald markings, neotenized features/behavior, curly tails, floppy ears... all these traits can be seen in domestic dogs, pigs, horses, cows, and so on. It's really cool stuff.

I believe you used them correctly. It reminds me a lot of the Farm Fox study that's been going on in Russia. Are you familiar with it? It's a very interesting read.

I am very familiar with it. Short-term version of what we've been doing to our critters for thousands of years... fun stuff.

i love this headcanon so much. it makes so much sense!! especially considering the wide variety of adaptations we see in real life animals.

Dude, i wish this was real. I really would read it. I'd love to learn more about Pokemon. It would be neat if you did this for a lot of Pokemon. I love the difference in the Wild Poochyena and the Domestic Poochyena. Seeing this makes me want to see a Domestic and Wild Mightyena. I look foraward to seeing more of this.

you draw some of the BEST Poochyenas I've ever seen. I love how the natural types are more akin to real hyenas.

I love how legit this looks. It is set up the way I see most text books.

The amount of thought you've put into this rendition of the pokemon world never ceases to amaze me. I adore the realistic differences and explanations. The more hyena look on poochyena looks rather cool actually albeit less cute.

Can I just take a moment to appreciate that the anthropologist's name is also a type of tree? Nice little addition there.

I really like this. Like, so much. Are all domestic Poochyenas be from breeders, then? Wouldn't all of them know Bite?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mewitti In reply to Ileah [2014-02-18 11:31:02 +0000 UTC]

Nah. A lot of wild Poochyena around towns are domestic types that were released from human society and decided to start families with other released domestic types in the wild. Kind of like feral domestic dogs.Β
