Well my friends, the future is here!
Here's Connie at age 28 3/4, and Steven, age 30.
So this counts as my first official Steven Universe fan art on this website, I think it turned out pretty well. For the parts that I didn't draw, the background and the screenshots up top are from the Steven universe wiki, so I guess credit goes to Rebecca Sugar on them. I basically did this so I can test out my new comic book creating software that I received not too long ago. I hope to utilize it to the best of my abilities to create comics and such works faster than ever.
But anyway, not too long ago I watched an episode of Steven universe entitled Steven's Birthday. I thought of how tragic it would be if Steven's eternal youth horrifically stagnated the course of Connie and Steven's relationship. It's a little too early to say now, but judging by the manly beard Stevens got coming in , I think my newest head cannon will remain just that. Besides, I don't think the writers of Steven Universe would be so callous as to leave Steven as a pudgy pile of wide-eyed optimism for the rest of eternity, but I've been wrong before.

In the episode that I mentioned, Greg Revealed that Steven was actually 14 despite him looking younger. it was suggested that Steven might not physically age pass his current appearance Β and this was my take on the situation.

Uuuuuuuuuh, well...lets just say attempts at higher intimacy were made....and the results were unstisfacrory. Sooooooo, nooo...-ish?

I'd like to think that the results of the, uhm...'higher intimacy'...were quite satisfactory, which prompted Connie to stick around him for so long. Y'know, given Steven's heightened physical strength, his ability to shape shift (growing...ahem...BIGGER...in certain places...cough) and that boundless kid energy he still has to have. Don't forget that no one else on the planet can 'fuse' with Connie like Steven can. Soooooooo, I'd kinda bless her shota-ish preference considering both internal and external factors (they ARE a warrior team committed to each other, yes?). The look on his face right now is probably directed at some jerk trying to woo his fwb away from him while they're on an outing. Makes sense, right?Β

His problem is that his physical age is driven by his mentality. In "So many birthdays" he gradually aged to an adult and an old man because of how he was feeling. He is bound to mature eventually, seeing Connie grow up will definitely do that.

Β In your opinion, what do you think it would take for something like this to happen? A prolonged period without Connie present? The gems (namely Pearl) keeping Steven from spending time with Connie out of fear of losing him? Connie going to college?

Any of those things possibly. Although I think Garnet would be more responsible than that. Greg would probably be a factor to his immaturity.

I think when Steven becomes a legal adult, he will be more like a midget (essentially a miniature adult) than he will be like someone suffering from Systematic Hypoplasia. Β If you don't know what that disease means, go watch the Batman: The Animated Series episode Baby Doll.
