Description
Thus far, while I don't have actual plans to create a Digimon/Tamagotchi game based off of this set of creatures and their evolution paths, this IS important to The Blue Tri since the entire reason why I'm making a fictional franchise within a fictional setting is to make Plio act more closer to his age and be directly influenced by it more than what his characterization is like. He still needs some form of identifiable traits as a young kid to at least maintain the fact he's very young, so as a result, this Digimon spoof franchise came into mind. This was actually planned in advance by having the Series 1 Virtual Pet toy on Plio's wrist in almost all of his artwork thus far. The only real reason he's not drawn with it in Page 2 of the Pilot Chapter is because I'm having it so he's accident prone with simply keeping the thing under his ownership. He's had to buy brand new ones at least three times to replace it, and some of them simply went missing around during his move between houses and schools, meaning he had to buy a few extras as well. Thankfully it's all coming out of his own allowance and his own obsession with the franchise is what's keeping him from once again buying a new device by the time Chapter 1 comes full circle.Design Influences:
Animals of Past, Present, or Myth:
-The two Teen Forms are based off of outdated Iguanadon reconstructions (Tamahorn) or a Piranha if it were venomous (Tamafish).
-The seven Adult Forms are based off of a Triceratops that's spoofing Greymon, a Stegosaurus, a Terror Bird type of animal, a Chimera of different sea animals of the deep abyss, a Sea Slug, a Feathered Serpent while also spoofing Airdramon, and Skeletal Monkey spoofing the roles of Numemon, Sukamon, and Nanimon in terms of being the absolute weakest of the bunch.
-The three Mature Forms are based off of a Triceratops spoofing MetalGreymon in continuation of Trident's spoofing of Greymon, a Green Dragon that's a gag as to what one of the original hero character concepts was for The Blue Tri as a whole (a Hero with a Green Dragon motif), and a Frankenstein-like Gorilla that serves as a spoof to both Devimon and Etemon, Devimon for the dark and sinister personality, and Etemon for the insane power and Primate basis.
-As described below, Draikox was originally intended as a benevolent, pacifist Dragon. In the light of the famous incarnation the show depicted as thanks to a glitch in the original Series 1 modeled produced, it got retconned into being a cosmic destroyer of worlds that maintained the balance of good and evil through outright carnage and death.
-Terybirs is based off of my old "Scream Bird" nightmare from around the same basic time interval from which I originally designed Kerason and KeraMaster around 1999/2000.
In the Fictional TV Show about these creatures and many more like these:
-Given how this is only the first batch of the what the fictional franchise offers, there's many more Beasts to utilize and tame in different releases of this particular line of V-Pet toys that got made into a TV Show that, while managing to tell a complete story, bombed heavily in regards to ratings since other shows kept stealing the spotlight from it, and that it's timeslot did not help it. It's creators, though, were at least determined to make a lengthy animated series and still have a complete story before the show ultimately got canned. Thankfully, the Series Finale aired before that could happen, and by the time Plio first gets invested into it as a 3 year old, the show had been around for 8 years and is considered a cult classic.
-The show itself, in comparison to the actual plots of The Blue Tri, are a bit generic yet still just as equally offer it's own fair share of Wham Episodes just like The Blue Tri to really shake things up. The Big Bad of the show, a Prometheus known as "The Ape King", degenerates every Beast on the planet back into their DynaEgg forms and intends to eat all of them to absorb their powers and become the ruler of the universe. Initially, it's only revealed he simply wants to rule the universe, but it doesn't say how he intends to do such a thing, nor does he appear in the flesh until said reveal takes place midway through Season 1. His fictional voice actor is an analog of Jim Cummings, so let that paint a picture for you with how freakishly intimidating the guy is supposed to be in both evil factor and scariness. Also, while he doesn't rule the universe yet, he technically DOES already rule the world the series takes place on due to the fact all of his opposition had been degenerated into eggs and are thus defenseless against him, save for five individuals who hatched faster than normal and are fighting back against the wraiths of the furious spirits of the former inhabitants of this now barren world.
-The main character is an analog to Agumon, having the same Baby and Child forms seen here, evolving into Tamahorn (As an analog to Agumon), then into Trident (A spoof of Greymon), and then even further into Atlas (A spoof of MetalGreymon but with the power of an Angemon type Digimon). While Tamafish and it's Adult Form of Quatz is used for a character, the Baby and Child forms are not present in this series, and it's Mature Form isn't designed yet as of the time I'm uploading this.
-Draikox is the most powerful Beast in the show's canon due to a notorious glitch effecting Drainox's coding that made every attack it had in the V-Pets capable of delivering OHKOs with absolute ease. When Draikox first appeared in the show, the writers did some alternate interpretation of Draikox's original lore involve it being a benevolent, weak Dragon, and changed into an outright monstrous Eldritch Abomination that resembles a Dragon and frequently kills off entire species and is fricking massive even when compared to the maximum size The Ape King can grow to. When the thing debuted in the show, neither good nor evil came out unscathed from Draikox's wrathful nature, and it didn't even leave until The Ape King agreed to a truce between himself and the heroes, and even then he had to face Draikox on his own before he even agreed to it; the truce was literally the only option he had that didn't involve him getting killed by either his enemies or Draikox, who easily proved far too much to handle alone in a fight, and the fact that The Ape King far too greatly underestimated Draikox's abilities, since he tried to degenerate it into a DynaEgg, only to be suddenly forced into having to tank a colony drop type attack that involves Draikox summoning an entire Dwarf Planet to strike down The Ape King with, and it nearly destroyed the entire planet outright in the aftermath and left a smoldering crater so huge it obliterated the entire continent almost entirely. The crater left is so huge it's a legit miracle that the planet survived the attack from Draikox. This attack, in the V-Pets, was originally a fired breath attack, until re-releases of the Series 1 roster V-Pet changed it to an attack called "Theia's Descent". Anybody who even knows where I got the name from should understand HOW devastating the attack was in the show as a result. It's basically comparable to the Permian/Triassic Extinction Event but FAR less merciful in comparison.
-Some of the show can be described as similar to Digimon Adventure, but even then I wouldn't even compare it to ANY Digimon series due to the fact the Big Bad stays as The Ape King even after he initially appears to be destroyed, and no other arc villains exist for too long before The Ape King kills them to eat their power sources. Then there's fricking Draikox as I described above as a Daijinryuu type of analog.....
In relation to The Blue Tri:
Currently, even as a 9 year old by debut and having got hooked on the series at 3, Plio doesn't know that the "Mature Form" level exists, and has only seen Beasts that go up to Adult and no further, and even when he finally does get a chance to see the episode in which The Ape King debuts, he mistakes Prometheus as an Adult Form, but it's actually a Mature Form species. As for Draikox, he's blissfully unaware of the thing entirely for a good while, whereas he at least DOES learn about Atlas from Season 1's finale for both Among the Beasts AND The Blue Tri, in which Plio gets a gift in the form of a disc containing the second half of episodes from Season 1 so that he can finally finish Season 1 and learn what happens next. Also, his Halloween costume when he was 3 is based off of Trident, who in turn has some of the color scheme from Tricera Ranger from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. Not only that, but the title of "The Blue Tri" could easily be associated with both protagonists of their respective stories and settings, since both Trident and KeraMaster a blue colored, semi-bipedal Triceratops type of creatures.
Design Notes:
-Due to how I created the sprites for both Trident and Atlas, they both have three differing sprites that are two frame animations. I'll upload them if you wanna see them, but I had to use something outside of Game Maker to export them as gifs, since Game Maker, for some batshit reason, no longer has that feature in the newer versions, which I think is pretty damn stupid if you ask me.
