For some reason the idea of a female!Peter Pan is awesome to me. Not the whole, "He's been portrayed by a girl before!" thing, but actually gender-bending all of the characters sounds awesome.

Maybe it's because Female!Pan would be a strong independent fun loving girl, vs. Male!Wendy who happens to like to take care of people, and is being forced to grow up.

Also, Wesley meeting mermen would show body-insecurities in male characters. In addition to that, the idea of gender rolls being switched and stereotypes being destroyed is always a bit fun to play with.

Then again, I guess you could do that with most stories.
