Yes, part of him did remember that, but it was almost like it wasn't him, who those memories belonged to. No, he didn't even look like that anymore -- was different from anybody else now, but him, Sephiroth.

So, he did follow him, away from the pain, from their prison ... and everything burned once again, not that that mattered anymore cause they were free now.
