Well, since she's only shown serving tea, I think it's reasonable to assume that she's more of an assistant than an actress. Don't get me wrong, I really like the scandal idea! I'm just saying there's little to no way to tell anything definite about her position in the movie. 

But I could totally see Lyra as some big-shot actress getting together with Edward, and as the media makes his presence known more and more, people come out saying he's involved in the Munich incident, is responsible for Dietlinde Eckhart's death and that he comes from the other side of the gate, in an attempt to expose him. Meanwhile, more people are jumping onto THOSE accusations, and creating accusations of him being an alien, a literal monster or some kind of super-being of sorts. And in that mess, all sorts of celebrities and inventors and whatnot jump into the spotlight with all sorts of methods and mechanisms to prove whether or not you and yours are from this world or another. And in THAT mess, again, journalists are coming up with all sorts of strange conspiracy theories about how Lyra secretly wants to destroy the country or something, claiming Edward is just a pawn and/or a distraction? I don't know, I just REALLY like this idea.
