Character: James 'Jim' Lake Jr (he/him) ref; James Jim Lake Jr - reference - from Tales of Arcadia (main series Trollhunters )

Last time I did a style challenge (the mutual's style challenge to be exact) a part of me really wanted to use Jim as a candidate but it felt odd to choose him and my any of my characters so I decided not to well ... this time I have gathered eight different animated series (and my own style) to try to draw Jim into to see what he'd look like :3

My rules for myself were that
The style I chose had to be from an animated series I've watched and enjoyed

It ended up mostly being Netflix shows x'D also most are 2D since I am not that great at interpreting CGI :'D

The styles are as follows:

My own style (top); I wanted this here as a comparison drawing It was the first one I drew so I had no real expectations for it looking at it next to the others I admit I wanted to redraw it so many times x'D but oh well what do you do :'D - Drawn 01/23 2021

Tales of Arcadia (top left); How could I not try to draw Jim in the series he is actually from x'D This was - as expected - the biggest challenge of all here OVO First up was the fact that I tried drawing 3D/CGI as 2D which meant it was time to find my old lineless art again next up was that one thing I really enjoy about ToA is the feeling of details; everything is so gosh darn detailed so of course I had to try that too x'D I am actually quite proud of how it turned out granted I could have smoothed the shading a bit more to make it look even closer to the original art style :'D still there's something quite pleasant about it ^V^ almost makes me want to try lineless again (ALMOST) x'D - Drawn 01/26 2021

Hilda (top middle); Hilda is such a sweet show and oh so different detailed wise from ToA next to it here x'D The beauty of Hilda's art style is how simple it is it was fun fooling around with a more chalk like lineart, big eyes and some swirlies in the hair :3 I ended up mixing together Trevor with David and a bit of Hilda for references To fit the simple art style I did not draw in the zipper of his jacket (also because I referenced David and he didn't have a zipper x'D) - Drawn 01/29 2021

Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts (top right): At first I had a lot of trouble with this one because I couldn't find a good character to be my reference Kipo is a wonderful show for one being because of how diverse it is - so diverse in fact I was close to give up finding a caucasian male to reference x'D but luckily I found one in Liam , a supporting character only seen in like one episode of season 3 then the rest went smoothly ^V^ it is interesting to see how they draw scars so much more brutal looking in this show OVO (I referenced Scarlamagne) - this art style is so sharp and the puple shadow was a lot of fun - Drawn 01/27 2021

She Ra and the Princesses of Power (middle left): And here we have the one that made me want to start the challenge x'D my silly head couldn't stop thinking how Jim would look as a magical girl/princess and thereby entering the She Ra universe well... this is not exactly what I had in mind but it is close x'D I ended up referencing one of my favourite characters, Kyle (no, really :'D) plus Adora for the eyes he just looks so happy in this style another slightly sharp style and I really enjoy that blocked blush they all have :'D it is so simple yet so adorable :3... Like with Hilda I decided not to draw in the zipper mostly because nobody else had really been seen with hoodies so I made it into a sort of Hoard suit x'D - Drawn 01/29 2021

Phineas and Ferb (middle bottom); This is actually one of the last one I drew for this challenge x'D second to last This was the one series I haven't watched episodically plus I haven't watched it in years so I am less aware of what is going on with it yet I enjoyed it well enough as a kid to be fair I mostly wanted it here since it is such a silly art style that I wanted to try x'D I referenced Jeremy for this one thinking that he and Candance probaaaably were closer to Jim in age x'D that chin was oddly enough the most challenging in all of this x'D also the sketch was creepy as heck OVO it worked so much better when I could use a simple oval as the eye x'D not much to say to this one really I gave him a zipper even tho the reference didn't have one x'D - Drawn 01/30 2021

The Dragon Prince (middle right); This one is the other not-really 2D here which meant I already knew it'll probably be the second most challenging x'D to be honest I was surprised that it wasn't the shading creating trouble but the eyes OVO I enjoyed drawing that nose way more than I should x'D the little heart shading is adorable :'D If you've seen any promo of the show it would probably not a surprise that I referenced Callum for this one x'D He ended up looking almost like Callum's twin x'D I like it tho :3 even tho I am still not sure why they'd light the hair with a grey light like that it is not very flattering in my opinion OVO - Drawn 01/30 2021

Over the Garden Wall (bottom left): This one is basically cirlces and mirroring canvas all around x'D I hadn't expected this to be hard to draw yet how simple and enjoyable it surprised me all the less :'D I referenced Wirt for this one because 1) he is one of the few human characters, 2) he is around Jim's age and 3) he has more or less the right hair and dress already x'D It was very easy turning the cloak into his jacket and then all I needed was to take off the hat x'D I had no idea how to draw the scars so I guessed x'D - Drawn 01/27 2021

Bojack Horseman (bottom right); Very fitting ending with the last drawing I drew x'D I had chosen to wait with this one till the end since I had no idea who to reference for this one OVO What I ended up doing was I referenced a younger Todd since he is one of the few somewhat right aged males in the show and also I wanted not to give Jim stubbles x'D The hair is a complete guess on my part since Todd almost never takes off his beanie x'D I decided to replace Jim's jacket with a hoodie like Todd's since nobody else seem to have turtle necks I really enjoy the texture of clothes and fur in this series so of course I had to put it onto Jim's hoodie here :3 - Drawn 01/30 2021
