Description This is a cover I did for Aspen Comics' Fathom book...I'm not sure what issue its for but it should be out in the next month or so I think. This is actually the first piece of finished comic artwork I've done completely digitally. Drawn on a Cintiq, then colored mostly on my crappy Graphire(I'm saving up for a Cintiq 24HD). Hope you like!

Cool man, thanks for the 411! I actually just bought a 12wx used from a friend of mine...I got an awesome deal on it, he hooked it up...I actually really like it! Its surprisingly thin and should work if I need to travel and get work done at the same time. I think I'll start saving up the for the 24hd at some point, but for now this will hold me over You going to SDCC?

dude, I want the small one as well for travel. I can't leave my office with this huge thing. My plan is to get one at some point!
Not going to SDCC, or NYCC this year. I don't have the budget to do so. I will be going to Toronto Fan Expo but I know that Aspen usually doesn't go there. Sucks cause I'd like to hang!

Ah well...Yeah, I would like to go to Toronto, but I don't think it'll happen as work is keeping me extremely busy. Hopefully at some point though! I miss my Canadian buds! As far the Cintiq, I'd try to wait for them to put bluetooth in it...Right now it has a video control box that you have to attach to it, which is a little annoying. I would imagine they'll probably go wireless with it soon because they've already done that with the Intuos.

I need a west coast trip.

But then I need a lot of trips. It's been seven years since LA. You're there indefinitely?

I'm very west coast deprived since the two of you moved away. It's great to have an excuse to come visit and people I know

this will happen and sooner rather than later, maybe the fall

Well, I'm able to recognize the character, so that's a plus. Also, I haven't read comics in years, and I didn't know that Fathom was still out. I read it when if first came out. Good job with this.

Face perspective is off putting a bit. the rest of the image is dope though. Im also getting into doing fully digital works now too. Cintiq = the way to go with that. hope it doesnt take you too long to acquire.

Yeah, those angles are always a struggle for me...But I try not to shy away from them. I work on a Cintiq every day at my job, and I love it. Only downside is not having the original art in case you want to sell it or keep it for yourself. Drawing on the Cintiq is definitely way faster though...Not having to clean up my pencils is definitely a plus.

yeah. the lack of originals is the main thing that is worrying me. theres definitely something nice about being able to sell them at shows and what not $. Also I'm worried that if i get too used to being able to make changes on the fly and all that, that doing traditional work at conventions and such will become very foreign feeling. all part of the game I guess. thanks for the response!

One thing you can do is if you're going to be drawing something you know you'll want to keep or sell, you can do the layout with the cintiq, print that out, and lightbox the final pencils. That way you at least can finalize most of the artwork the cintiq and work out any scale issues before putting pencil to paper. I know some comic artists that do everything digital except certain pages which they know will be valuable...Its a smart way to work.
