Description This is a scene I created on 3D studio max using a directional light with the volume light addition to create the sun beams.

The city template I used was originally created by Olivier Couston, a fantastic 3D modeller who provides his work for other 3D animators to use for free. From Olivier's original models, I was able to expand on his original 9 buildings to create a scene with close to 300 buildings, which I changed to fit the scene.

I also painted the background to create an "expanse" of buildings in the background without the need for additional rendering. Ambient lighting (orange) provided a very interesting, smoggy appearance which fits well with the directional lighting.

This scene is a city shot from a Star Wars film I am currently working on, taking place in the "Knights of the Old Republic" era in the Star Wars universe. The project is intended to involve a story that is much more gritty and violent than the traditional Star Wars story, which should give a totally new angle on the series. This film is being made as a "fan project", which George Lucas was more than happy to allow.

I am proud of how this scene turned out. I am grateful for Olivier's generous lending of his material. Without it, this scene would have taken much longer to make.
