Description Crotalus horridus - Timber rattlesnake from Le Flore County, Oklahoma.

A couple friends and I cruised this adult recently. There were four found over the course of the night.

while looking at a picture of a snake do you ever get the feeling that one might be crawling up you're leg? Cause it's happening to me

Thanks a lot. He just wanted me to know he was there, that's it. Haha. There were no strikes nor was he aggressive by any means, which is the case more often than not.

Usually I see photos with beautiful snakes and that's why I like them, but this the whole image is just gorgeus! And ofcourse the snake is beautiful too xD

Haha. Well.. the backdrop is just a road. Hahaha. Thanks!!!

But it fits perfectly, really brings out the snake

True. I take a lot of road shots just because that's where I happen to find a certain individual and I don't like to collect a lot, even just for photos. Plus staging shots off the road eats up valuable herping time. Haha

I wish I took time to shoot the others. The one I found the night before was light grey as opposed to tan. This one's better though. haha

So unfair, Mike. You found four in one night and yet we didn't find any on my trip to Shawnee?! Absolutely gorgeous snake, and wonderful capture. Love the shape he's curled in.

Whoa, rattlesnake, here in Texas we see them from time to time.

You guys have quite a few species depending on which part of the state you're in. Western diamondback, timber, Mojave, mottled rock, blacktail, and prairie rattlesnakes can all be found in Texas.

I live in the South Texas region near the gulf of Mexico, I've never seen one in person although considering that they can be dangerous, that might be a good thing.

They're not as dangerous as people make them out to be. They don't really chase people or anything, it's just a matter of observing them from a safe distance, especially if you don't really have any experience with them. I shoot some of my shots of them from just a couple feet, into just a few inches away from them, but I have worked with them long enough and enough individuals that I know how close I can actually get and still be well outside of their strike zone.

Of course this is posted the day after I replace my old C. horridus deviantart icon,

Definitely a looker. I found my lifer the night before locally in Arkansas, then we ended up with 4 total for the night the next night in Oklahoma. This wasn't the best of the 4, but the only one I took time to shoot. It was too good a night on the road to waste valuable herping time shooting. Haha
