Description
Hey, all. Long time no see. Just been busy with school. >_< Hope you all have been doing well. This piece is more personal than most since, well, it's me. Not a drawing of mine - but actually me. For those that have been following me, you know that 2012 was the most difficult year of my life. I was hospitalized three times and in and out of the ER more times that I care to remember. But now, thanks to medication, weight loss - and a lot of prayer - I'm much healthier.
One of the main things doctors kept telling me is that I had to loose weight. I knew that, but being in so much pain - and being in and out of the hospital so much - shook something up in me. I *had* to change. Not for looks or any aesthetic reason: I had to loose weight if I didn't want to *die*. My heart just couldn't take the strain any more.
So, on February 16, 2012 I changed the way I ate - permanently (God willing). No fast food. No soda. No red meat. No salt. Just sensible meals (lots of chicken, turkey and fish). Lots of vegetables. Mostly vegetables, actually. Salads are great - as is oatmeal, yogurt and granola.
And now, a little over a year later - and 140lbs lighter - I have to say that getting ill last year was the best thing that could have happened to me. I shook me up and really straightened my head out. I'm healthier now. I *breathe* easier now.I thank God every day for the progress that I've made and I'm hopeful for the future.
I say all this not to boast (since I haven't reached my target weight yet - but hopefully will soon!) but simply to share a bit of my journey. I find it rather embarrassing that I've lost more weight than some of my friends weigh - period. The thing is - it was done - and to anyone out there struggling with weight, you can do it too. It took me being hospitalized to change the way I live. If you know that your weight is a problem, don't wait until you're at death's door before you do something about it. Make the decision to save your life right now.
Hope I didn't get too deep there. Ha! Hope ya like the pic.
Much love, y'all.
Mike C

Congrats man, I know of what you speak...currently I am 290lbs, and feeling every pound of it, Its really hard to go "cold turkey" from eating the great tasting garbage we have been used to for years, but yes, at a certain point in ones life "enough is enough", I am tired of being in pain(mainly my knees & ankles). I do exercise and for someone my size I am in reasonable shape, just too damn heavy. I have virtually cut out all fast foods, totally cut out my soda intake, salt wasn't ever really a problem with me, never liked it...started hording the lean cuisine meals-to give them a try-so hopefully this time next year I'll be saying the same thing man....congrats again Michael-continued best of health brother.

Indeed. At a certain point, enough is enough.
I wish you the best on your journey, mate! We're all in this together - taking it a day at a time. You can do it!
Thanks so much and talk to you soon. Cheers!

Thanks! Ha! A few people have said that. I've been introduced to people that I already know and they didn't recognize me. Strange, but also good I guess (in that I've changed so much for the better).

dude, you earned it. No thanks needed. If you don't mind me asking. Was all that just from eating differently or did you exercise too (due to circumstances here I'm interested)?
Seeing what you've managed to do is inspiring. And in one year? In those pictures, your "before" looked in his 30s and the after looks like his teenage son. looks related but NOT the same fella. seriously. congrats!

Thanks again! Most of the weight was lost with eating differently. I couldn't exercise until I was sub-200lbs since I was too weak and my heart was still getting better. Once I was able I started walking regularly - 30 mins three times a week. Then more as I could.
Hope that helped! Talk to you soon.

Oh wow! Congrats! I really wish I knew what you did. I need to lose about the same amount. I've tried a lot, but I seem to get nowhere. May I ask for a little advice?
