thanks, it seems that the real trick to blending with markers is to work fast in small areas at a time. I don't use a lot of colors. I put colors next to each other and scrub. Say you want a blend from red to yellow, I lay down red on the edge, orange in the middle then I blend across those two with yellow. I don't use "blender" markers but a #0 cool or warm gray does the same trick.

You can get decent markers cheap on ebay. As long as they are alcohol based, they will do whatever I can do. I've tried a bunch of different markers in the $1-$2 each range and they work fine. The Dick Blick studio markers are basically Prismacolor markers for about a third the price, and you can find some no-name brand sets on ebay ( I assume from China) that are even cheaper.
