Description
Tyneshe for Victoria 4`s Classic fantasy
Valkynne hair
Streets of Asia
Rendered with LuxRender v1.3 beta using LUXUS and DAZ studio.
This one kicked my butt numerous times but I percevered with it, the skin is glossy translucent with volume to simulate sub surface scattering but I think some of the detail is lost unfortunately, the hair is glossy translucent purple with a very low bright red absorption. The Classic fantasy bikini was supposed to be gold but it came out super reflective which actually looks pretty good I think, narrow angle depth of field and a little bloom for good measure.

Yep, the gold looks really great here, and so does the hair. I think her skin looks good also, as I can notice the SSS effect achieved here, and it does make a difference in the softness and realism of the character. Although you do lose some texture details when dealing with volume translucency, it's worth it for the overall material appearance in most cases. However, there are indeed ways to maintain that detail; requires the use of control maps to tell the shader where to scatter more or less of the light, and enhance the appearance of things like skin blemishes, wrinkles, or sub-dermal veins, etc. You may need to create these extra maps yourself when you use stock characters though, because it's very rare for someone to provide special maps for these render-specific details.

Thanks, Im glad ppl are liking it here as it got ripped apart over at the Luxrender forums, mind you I think they all feel there perfectionists over there anyway.

Well, you need to consider that over in the Luxrender forums, you are dealing with a lot of people who have a prejudice against Daz and Poser stuff in general too. If you post anything over there for critique, it's going to be looked at with extremely technical eyes that are used to seeing some of the most realistic renders there are. They expect photorealistic results from Luxrender, so only post work over there if you are totally confident the image can withstand extreme scrutiny, or if you really want the most picky of critiques. It's good you are looking for serious, hardcore critique, because in the end, that is really the only way to improve your skills. No matter how good an image is, even if it's a photograph, there's always room for improvement. Getting all "good job" or "that's great" responses is always comforting, and I'm guilty of that myself, but it doesn't really help you technically. You've definitely come a long way from the days of Luxfemme stuff, and I honestly do think you're latest stuff is excellent, so keep on this track.
