I want this movie to fail too, but mostly because of the lead actress being pro-police brutality during the Hong Kong protests.

Betcha didn't see that one coming.

I haven't seen the Disney original cartoon.  But I'm sticing with chinese made version with Zhao Wei as Mulan.  There is no talking dragons and it follows the legend as Mulan never married and returned to take care of her father.  Now the complins I'm hearing about the SJWs is that the crew isn't asian enough.  What a bunch of idiots...

Oh smokes, I didn't know there was another version of Mulan in 2009. That and I have seen Zhao Wei's works before, which was Shaolin Soccer, which was a pretty funny movie!

Zhao Wei is super popular in China.  You'll find her more in mainland chinese movies then Hong Kong's, but she is quite a good actress.  I don't  know how many are out in the US, but you should try "Warriors from earth and heaven" and "So close".  Thought she's not the lead actress in those.  In Mulan, she is

I saw the early reviews of the Mulan remake and boy it is not looking too good for Disney.

Really now? Ah I'm not surprised on that. Guess that's 2 in a row when it comes to the remakes. Not sure on Aladdin though.

Aladdin was okay, the only good parts of the Aladdin remake is Will Smith as the Genie and the songs, the rest are just meh.

So how much money is Disney willing to piss away by making these soulless cash grabs? Not a single live adaptation of their classic animated movies interest me in the tiniest bit. Money that could be spent better.

That's the problem, money. Despite the live action remakes being.........less than stellar, they do make a metric butt-ton of money, somehow.

The movies make money, then people buy merchandise, of which there are decades worth.

And unfortunately the idea came from Marvel.

Marvel Comics despite it's popularity has had a plethora of financial problems during its run, it kept itself afloat by signing away the filming rights of various heroes, which is why so many people have the rights to so many marvel characters, but eventually the only way for them to survive was to sell to Disney.

Disney began making Marvel films, which have cumulatively made more money than god, and their combined popularity has helped Marvel Comics itself. In a big way.

Now Disney seeks to apply this same logic to their old works.

The next logical question is then who exactly is the target audience Disney are aiming with these unnecessary remakes. Adults like myself who grew up with the orignal animated films already have a copy of the film in storage somewhere or if not can readily watch it via numerous means. Marvel has not been doing well, appealing to people who wouldn't even read their comic books in the first place..Not folks like myself who never picked up a comic book in my life, but a more insane demographic.

That I do not know, I don't know for sure WHO the target is, as I said they are simply trying to recreate an effect the MCU had.

While it's true, people who didn't like the comics before weren't likely to start because of the movies, but with all the film, TV series, and netflix/disney + series they are making they have achieved a greater fanbase.

There's also a number of other ways the movies have helped the comics that I really don't want to sit here and bore people with, but the point I am trying to make, simply making the movies themselves had a positive effect on the original franchise.

So going back to your question I honestly don't know if they have a target audience, I don't know that they have one, I think they are just trying to make the same thing but with different ingredients and hopin for the same outcome.

The only logical guess is the younger generation. I do not doubt.that, but due to comic books having so many alternate universes, storylines, and generally a medium where there is no definitive end unlike in say mangas that then get turned into animes, those are the reason why comic books can never appeal to me personally. Mangas don't interest me for different reasons.

I think comics would be better if character were actually allowed to keep their development.

Or at least decent development.

Any time a character shows any sign of growth another writer comes along and flushes that down the toilet, the character dies and is brought back to life with partial amnesia so they don't remember their character development, or when they do get to keep it its so bad they don't even resemble themselves anymore, like you need someone to actually tell you who that person is.

DC had 30 years of decent character development and I loved it, many characters had grown and evolved in ways that made sense, and then came new 52 and almost NONE OF THAT HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then there's spiderman. The hero Marvel has declared can't be anything else but their own personal Peter Pan, he's the hero and he NEVER grows up.

They keep introducing younger members of 'The spider family' who act as protege's to him and could definitely fill the 'young hero' role they want, and let him grow up, like Stan Lee wanted, but nope.

Hell, even Spawn retconned itself back to the beginning.

Yep. All of that and more. I wish anyone who wants to get into comic books the very best of luck.

If there's one thing I can say to these remakes that's been going on and on, let it die.

I fully agree with you there buddy. Why doesn't Disney give some love to their lesser known IPs.
