This isn't the typical art I make but I've got a little story for you...

This movie called RAD came out in 1985. I was pretty young at the time but as I started to grow up, I would watch this movie over and over. It was about BMX bicycles and there were some incredible tricks in the movie and I used to run outside after watching it and try to do the same tricks on my bike that I saw in the movie.

Later in middle school, I ended up winning a California-wide poster contest for bicycle helmet safety for which I won a brand new BMX bicycle. It was given to me at a dedicated assembly just for this contest in front of the whole school. Needless to say, that was a pretty big deal to me and being a fan of the greatest BMX movie ever made, it created a deeper connection to me.

These days I now design movie posters professionally - I'm sure in part thanks to the confidence I gained way back in middle school after winning that poster contest.

With that, I decided to make a tribute poster which you see here. I'm such a fan that I made my own replica bicycle from the movie and I actually posed for the reference image used in the center here. This was just something I did for fun but there was some hope that maybe it might be used in some official capacity and that's exactly what happened. I sent it out to a few people and after some back and fourth, it is now approved by the producers as the official 35th anniversary poster!
