Description This has to be one of my favorit birds. Just look at it :3

Animal Info

Range : Swamps with papyrus in Africa
Food : Especially lungfish. Most often he is standing motionless for hours in the water, just to capture its prey out of the blue.
Characteristic : In Arabic called "Abu Markub" - father of the shoe - due to its enormous bill

Sorry. I just had to. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword's Loftwings are based on shoebills.
Really amazig photo! It's awesome how the bird looks straight at the viewer / camera. And cool colors with the bird in both its feathers as well as in eyes.

Hehe, i knew that i know it from somewhere as i saw it in the park.
It bugged me the whole day and at first i thought of chocobos but at some point my girlfriend was showing me the Loftwing comparsion and i was like Β  .

I have seen it in a Prague zoo. I came there wondering how big could it be. Like a han? A duck? When I found out it is bigger than a stork, I was amazed.Β
