You *do* know that Remus in the books had no scars on his face, right? At least I hope you know it.
If Remus *had* turned up with obvious fresh wounds on his face (after having had to take time off class due to "illness") every twenty-eight days, you wouldn't have to be "the brightest witch of your age" to figure out something was going on. Personally, I think every pubescent girl at Hogwarts going through her own 28-day cycle would have taken only a few months to conclude that their wimpy Gryffindor classmate was suffering from lycanthropy rather than pathological PMS.

As well as there is stated nowhere in the book that Remus had scars, it is also stated nowhere that he had no scars. So I guess it's up to people how they like to imagine a character?
Also if he had gotten wounds I guess that would've been nothing he could have prevented. It would just have happened, no? At least I think a turned werewolf would just attack creatures without worrying about getting hurt.
And girls having an own cycle and thus would be more likely to discover his secret... well it could have happened even without wounds, but I really doubt it. One would need to be VERY interested in Remus to always pay attention to his absences due to illness. Also the girl's cycle would perfectly need to match up to the full moon for making her realize that always when she is in pain, Remus is absent, too. So the chance of him getting found out because of that would be rather small.

Also, in a world where werewolves are known to exist, getting "sick" every full moon might be passed off by a female student as really bad PMS, but with a male student it would be blatantly obvious to *everyone* what Remus's real problem was. With visible physical injuries added, even a girl couldn't pass it off as a menstrual problem.

As well as nowhere is said that he had NO scars. He even could've gotten them from somewhere at home once. Meaning, he could have had them since day one at Hogwarts. So everybody would be used to seeing him like that.
There are many possibilities how he indeed could have gotten scars. It is even mentioned that he bit and scratched himself.
As I said already - at first there needed to BE someone paying that much attention to Remus' absences and the moon phases at the same time. If someone in class gets sick very often, well... then he gets sick very often. Usually nobody thinks about this any further. Also I think the Hogwarts students might have lived under the assumption that a werewolf would never be allowed at school.
Remus' friends... of course they found out. Because they were his friends and kept paying attention to him.
But all of this is open to speculation. Even without any scars involved.

I never found it, too >.< So I had to draw it myself ^^ l(I somehow figured out that I like drawing scenes from the book... especially when they weren't ion the film at all or didn't go as I imagined them xD)

I have a project to draw scenes from the books that we never see in fanart, too... last time I re-read the books, I wrote, for each chapter, a small scene I's love to draw, but haven't seen in fanart yet... when I'm done with my historical challenge (hopefully next spring), I'll give it a go
