Gaunter o Dim is here an allegory of a character who subtly interferes
with the fate of the world, to later see how what he did affected the
world around us. Those who enter into a contract with him always have to
pay it back. It can be compared to Mephisto or simply the Devil who
fulfills his innermost dreams and finally turns them into a nightmare
and takes the soul of the unfortunate person who made a contract with
him.
If Belos turned out to be human, it would be possible that he had made a
pact with a powerful being that allowed him to achieve what he has now.
The question is at what price.
