The snowflakes, the snow, the rocks, the garment, the sky, the mood, all looks great. I would like her face to be more feminine, but shes propably an elf, so its ok, maybe she should look somewhat indifferent.

I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind; Do you make your living from illustration? if so, how do you think you do? I know the market out there is competitive, but I guess what i'm curious about is whether it is true that doing fantasy related work is like doom for an illustrator. A couple of my professors insist that aspiring to being a fantasy illustrator is somehow too low a goal. (then again, they are fine-artists types, but still...I just dont see their point of view).

Hm,this is quite difficult question. Yeah basically I'm making my living from illustration or better said concept design and doing stuff for computer games. Illustration is more of a hobby most money comes from the game stuff. I was working for awhile as art director as well, but what I like the most is creating stuff. I always wanted to do illustrations mostly because I loved comics and some good fantasy artwork. I was studying industrial design and I reallised that is not the thing I like to do the most I always liked the illustrator/concept art direction better. I adimt that nowadays I'm trying to get away from the clasical fantasy illustration, it's not so attractive for me anymore. I started to enjoy some modern art stuff as well. I'll be trying to push myself to do more artsy stuff, will see how it goes. But I must admit that my goal is to be more than "just" fantasy artist

That's a great answer! I'm personally interested in more than just fantasy art, although I find it difficult to believe that all fantasy artists really limit themselves to that. Would you say that your interest in fantasy work has taken you places you hadn't otherwise gotten to?

yeah for sure, I was allways more into comics than fantasy art. But where I live it was easier to do fantasy illustration than do comics (there are nearly no slovak comics being published). I just got an offer at high school to do illustration for free for a local fantasy mag, so i took it and that gave me themes and made me finish my works. Through that I've had my first book cover job. And after I've had some illustrations I could show them at a game company and they gave me a job. So doing fantasy illustration basicly gave me purpose to keep drawing in the early days. Now I'm thinking to move a bit further,to do more original stuff, but I still like doing illustration, there are some "fantasy" and comics artists that I really like.

That's very cool! I had a great opportunity to get into a job in comics when I was in high school, but my mom was very overprotective, and thought that a sixteen year old girl shouldn't be working with thirty-something men. IN the end, that's ultimately what I want to do, although I am getting a college degree.
I think your artwork is very cool indeed, and so very detailed. The technique is like a marriage between traditional art and digital art,so that rough honesty of a hand-gesture shows through. It's not all super-polished and anime-cell looking. I dont' like those types; and anyway, looking at your artwork in-depth has taught me quite a bit. Regardless of the genre, really, whether it's fantasy, action, sci-fi, goth or comics, I really enjoy looking at your works. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? (The reason I ask is so I can get a gage on about how long you've been doing artwork)...

Oh that's neat! I just turned 26 myself. How funny! I expect to graduate the end of next spring, hopefully then I'll have time to dedicate to the stuff I'm interested in. I feel that I haven't been able to see what I can do for myself yet...

Thats such a piece that shows clearly that digital CAN REALLY look both alive and traditional, without being a copycat. I really dig that one, gotta study it close up when I am back home <3
