Ye, I think it's because the volume of information (and art) gets bigger while our attention spans get shorter.
I does help however to have a description that stems conversation. Like, here, you said that it looks funny to you and I disagreed. Moreover, I think most decide whether they like something or not rather subconsciously so if there's nothing particular to focus on, like a certain detail or an existing train of thought, you end up just with "That's great" comment that nice, but not so helpful..

Although, her eyes dominate the picture so much, almost everything would work!
