In the Country of Spades, Alfred and Arthur, don’t know each other. They are not royalty. Theyre just, normal. Though, the Spade’s King and Queen are running the country to ruins. Both Alfred and Arthur’s lives have personally been ruined by the Spades.
Alfred’s father was hanged for speaking against the crown. His mother and him, haven’t been doing well since then.
Arthur’s parents were killed by soliders, who under influence became just as cruel as the King and Queen. Was sent to an orphanage along with his brother.

This takes place when theyre quite young. Probably around 16ish? Arthur has been trying to rally up the people and speak of change and a revolution, for a couple of weeks now. Though he only gets about 2 or at most 5 people to come. Since everyone is scared to participate the meetings. Alfred soon hears about this from a local farmer, after he gets beaten up by a few soldiers on the street for bumping into them.
