Description
Here’s Matthew, an LBSCR E4 tank engine. He was built by the LBSC in 1897 to pull goods trains but was also deemed reliable enough to pull passenger trains as much as they pulled goods.Matthew would be later sold in 1914 to the S.R.F. (Sodor Royal Forces) to be their private engine at their Vicarstown Military Base. He worked there for many years and went to France to work in the front lines in 1915-1918. He got into a incident in 1917 which cause him to have a scar across the bridge of his nose. (Not properly seen here though)
He would return to Sodor to work at the base, even recommending James to The Fat Director during the agreement between the NWR and LMS, due to working with him in WWI. Matthew would later leave Sodor in 1942 to work in the front lines, replaced by Molly at the base during that time.
During the end of the war, Matthew would be struck down along with his brother Noah next to him by a missile. His brother was killed and Matthew was severely damaged. However, the men believed that it was Noah who survived instead and sent him back to England to be repaired. Matthew would’ve corrected them, if not for his amnesia. He had forgotten practically everything before the war and was told he was Noah and accepted it. And he worked with the SR and later BR as Noah.
It wasn’t until the 1960s when he began to get his memories back. But he was later withdrawn from service, but he was preserved by some preservationists who wanted to restore him. He was getting restored to former working order when further memories made him realise he was Matthew. After a discussion, the S.R.F.’s general came to see Matthew and recognised him instantly. He soon called Stephen Hatt to buy him off them. BR had to pay then after using their engine without them knowing and Matthew was sent back to Sodor in 1984.
When he got there, he was finished being repaired and got a new coat of paint. He then was ordered to build a new branch line with Harvey the Crane Engine to a new town south of Cronk which had opened a new harbour.
Matthew would help build and later run the line himself. He’s later get help from new engines.
Personality: Matthew is wise and experienced. He takes no fuss from engines and is strict with rules and regulations. He can also be overconfident with his decisions and can overlook certain things. However is brave enough to overcome them and fix the issues at play.
