So, the whole thing about Tails in Sonic Forces... Yeah, I'm not a fan. I mean, yeah, I get it. Tails is feeling pretty lost and hopeless after losing Sonic. Anyone would feel that after witnessing their best friend/hero/surrogate brother be defeated and seemingly killed by some strange and mysterious new enemy. However, the execution of Tails dealing with his grief is not only poorly handled but also a massive insult to Tails' growth as a character. Tails doesn't have to be reduced to a cowardly weakling (easy there, Infinite) who can't even defend himself from Chaos and reacts by begging for help from someone he is convinced is dead. If SEGA wanted to have Tails depend on a Sonic for help, then make him appear exhausted and on the verge of collapsing while trying to defend Omega in a passive manner. That would have been much better.

With all that said, here's my spin on Tails' situation for my Sonic Forces comic:

Over the past six months, Tails has been desperately trying to find any clues of Sonic's whereabouts although he's fully convinced that Sonic is gone forever. A bit of a "denying the truth" kinda situation. While he's searching for clues, Tails tries to help others as best as he can in Sonic's place and is even part of the Resistance for a short while. However, when everyone grows overly concerned for Tails' mentality, Tails reacts badly and runs away to try and prove that he's capable of taking care of himself and that he'll set things right. While Tails may not have said anything himself, it's clear that he blames himself for losing Sonic and has been mentally punishing himself out of guilt. His friends try to find him, but they've had no luck in their search for him and have been too overwhelmed by the Eggman Empire. By the time we see him again in Force's story, Tails has found Omega's deactivated body and moved him to a makeshift workshop to try to repair him. Too exhausted and mentally tormented, Tails keeps failing to repair Omega and is unable to focus. During the repairs, Tails is attacked by Chaos. Tails tries to defend Omega, but is too tired and weak to fight, falling unconscious. Luckily, someone swoops in to Tails' rescue. When Tails regains consciousness, his vision is blurry but he can make out a familiar figure. He hears a familiar voice call him "bro", and Tails believes Sonic has come back. The little fox hugs the figure, expressing his relief that Sonic has returned. The figure gently pushes Tails away after a moment and apologizes but he is not Sonic. Tails' vision is finally restored and he sees that the hedgehog before him is not Sonic indeed. While they look very similar, this hedgehog was green, had wild bangs, and different sense in fashion from Sonic, though they were nearly identical. When Tails finally saw who his savior was, he realized that it was Manic the Hedgehog, Sonic's triplet brother. A female purple hedgehog is also there who Tails also recognizes as Sonia the Hedgehog, Sonic's triplet sister. The two hedgehogs asked Tails what he's doing in such a dangerous place all on his own and why he's been tinkering with an Eggman robot. Tails explained that he was fine and that Omega was a friend who needs his help. Tails tries to go back to repairing Omega, but accidentally injures himself with one of his tools. Sonia pulls Tails away from Omega and tries to talk sense into him while Manic takes a closer look at Omega himself. After much arguing, Sonia and Manic manage to convince Tails to come with them, Manic promising that they could take Omega with them in their van and help Tails fix him. Almost immediately after they all pack into the van and begin to go about their way, Tails passes out again. Manic, who is in the back with Tails and Omega, covers Tails up with a blanket and starts working on Omega's repairs for Tails. As much as Manic hated working on an Eggman robot, he knew that this was important to Tails and was determined to not let his little brother down.

Yes, I am replacing Classic Sonic with Manic and Sonia. I don't really have anything against Classic Sonic, but I felt like Manic and Sonia would be more fun. I am actually quite the fan of Sonic Underground and wanted to bring back Sonic's siblings. They're fun and interesting characters. Besides, I'd love to see everyone's reactions to meeting Sonic's triplet siblings and that Manic is quite the kleptomaniac. That'd be so hilarious! I also think it'd be funny to see Rouge get jealous when she sees Sonia and Knuckles be so friendly towards each other, even though their relationship is completely platonic.
