Description
For Gary, Rufftnut(AKA Full Cream), Taco, Thor, Tuffnut(AKA Skim Milk) and Felix, my beloved chickens I will never forgetSorry about not replying to any rps for awhile!
As I have mentioned before, the past few weeks have become quite overwhelming for me, and I don't believe I'm in a good place to properly do any rps, but I'll try to reply as soon as I know i can give you the best possible reply!
So I usually don't share any personal stories on deviantart, but I so badly wanted to post this drawing, I think only a few people know what happened.
Well as you can see, there are six chickens in the picture. Me and my sister raised eight chickens ever since they were small enough to sit in our palms, but over a long time, six of them came to pass on, or so I assume.
During the very first week we adopted them, we only had four, one unnamed chick had escaped the temporary hutch we kept them in and must've been taken away by some birds or predator or some sort. So one chick had died on day three. we hadn't named them back then, nor did we manage to get a good photo of them so I could not draw them here.
A week later, we adopted four more, and then adopted another afterwards.
So the rest of them grew up to be at their teen-adult ages. The roosters I owned(Felix and Tuffnut) were complained about by some neighbours because they were too loud in the morning, so we had to give them away, and I think it's pretty clear what happened to them.
This also happened with Tuffnut's sister, Ruffnut because her clucking was also very loud. The day my dad had planned to take Ruffnut away, I didn't get quite a good look but my dad had tied up her legs and put her under a milk crate, only god knows why. So Ruffnut was taken away and given to my cousins. It's pretty clear what happened.
So even though I wasn't close with the roosters and Ruffnut, there were tears but I got over it easily, my dad didn't tell me what happened to them but I think I know. I don't think there's many people out there who would keep chickens only as pets.
The holidays came and everyday we let the chickens out into the backyard during the daytime, and put them in at night. We let them out quite early in the morning, about 7:30am and went inside the house. Not even 15 minutes afterwards, I checked on them again and I saw a fox jump over the fence as it heard me open the back door. I quickly rushed to a place on the porch where I could see the whole garden, and I saw two chickens (which I later learned to be Gary and Thor) laying still on the ground, wings spread and feathers and fluff scattered all over the garden, anybody could tell that they put up such a fight. I quickly called for my dad and of course I cried. My friend came to my house not long after because we had movie plans that day and my dad buried the two.
Waiting for my other friend to come to my house so we could leave to the cinema together, my sister told me that she went out to do her laundry and there were still two chickens alive. Now you're confused, right? Well other than the six I've mentioned throughout this, I had eight chickens overall and now there were two survivors, Bob and Earl grey. Two of the slowest hens I owned. That was weird but I didn't give a shit, there were still some alive, but I couldn't find Taco.
So I went to the movies with my friends, it's funny, we watched Zootopia and a few days beforehand, the Volpina episode of Miraculous Ladybug had aired.
So when I came back home, I did some research and learned that there were many foxes around where I lived, which is bad because I live in Australia and foxes are not native. My dad told me that he found Taco's body hidden under some leaves, but she was headless. It was not nice to hear.
A couple of days later, Earl Grey was digging around the garden, when I saw her eating something. At first, I thought it was half a croissant because we often fed them scraps, but I went to take a closer look. It turned out to be Taco's head, I can still vividly remember seeing it for the first time. It was dirty from the soil, but what was worse was that Taco looked as thought she was in the middle of screaming and on top of that, her eyeballs were gone. Afraid to pick it up, I used a shovel to push it into a hole and buried it. It was traumatizing.
Today, Earl Grey cannot walk properly because of a leg injury when she was young, and her body is too fat for her legs to carry on top of the injury.
tl;dr, Chickens are easy to get attached to if you treat them right. It's not fun to see pets pass away.
If anybody did read everything, thank you so much for your time. This story may mean absolute crap to you, but it's something very important to me that I can't let go.

I have chooks. I had to part with my beloved red hen, T-rex. I miss her terribly, and I've been told that while her current owners still have her, they refuse to part. I worry for her, but as long as they keep her safe I'll be glad. She was my tv watching buddy!
We have 9 new hens now, at our new home. Only one has a name, a big black rooster who is really really dumb, so I named him after Heihei.
We lost our tiny bantam chicks to the forces of nature. Their adoptive mama was a great mama, and raised them to pre-teen stage too. Something happened while we were gone also, and we came home to 6 dead fluffy white chooks. Their mama was so upset, she passed away after a few days when she finally gave up looking for them.
But, I love my chooks. I miss them all, Rex, Dumpling, Hook, Saveejay, Remmy, Snowflake and Rumble. My new girls all need names, and while I really wish to have another chook named T-rex, there's only ever going to be one big red hen who figured out how to climb stairs, then to make her way indoors, and jump up to sit next to me for the telly.

Ahh I'm so sorry to hear about your chooks, to be honest I had to reread your comment at least 3 times because it sounded like something you'd only read in books! I wish I was allowed to bring the chickens inside the house too haha
Unfortunately earl grey passed away, probably from a sickness and Bob was taken by foxes one night. I swear I must've heard her squawking but didn't think much about it, and horribly regret not going outside to check.
We now have three new chicks that've grown big and healthy, but they flinch at my every move because we got them during winter and it was always too cold to play with them and let them get used to me.
As a fellow chicken owner, I really look up to you! I feel roosters are much harder to gain the trust of than hens, T-rex is very lucky to have had an owner like you. I hope you are doing well ^^

Ah, I'm sorry to hear the losses of your chickens. I know the feeling when it comes to losing a pet, or at least losing someone I'd cared and still care about.
Overall, I hope you'll be okay. It's all right if you can't let go of them, I think they're lucky to have someone care about them. //pats

I'm sorry for your chickens ;w; //pats you gently
I don't really like hens but well, a pet is a pet and it's always sad to see them leave (plus some of them had a tragic end)
I hope you'll feel better soon!

It is
I have 4 tortoises in my garden and even if it's rather boring compared to a cat, we like them very much
Alas 2 of them died some years ago, one of unknown cause, the other because she had been bullied by the male and she was weak (we did our best to save her but ultimately she stayed too long in the sun and died ; 7 ; ) we got 2 little ones last year so we're still at 4 but we're still sad about the others
So yeah I can understand how it feels to have to bury your own pets and I totally empathize with you ;w;

wahh that's horrible, sometimes I consider just not getting close with the pets my family gets just so I won't feel so stressed when they leave,
but I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one to get sad over things like this, thank you ; u ;
