While 80s Nostalgia only seems to recognize glam metal, proto-synthwave, vaguely New Wave pop, and one-hit wonders, the Roots Rocker was also a prominent feature of the top 40 charts in that era. In fact, well into the 90s you could see some handsome hunk strumming, mumbling or shouting his way through a 3 chord hit dedicated to "the heartland," "small town girls," and "wild summer nights." This wasn't an obscure genre. Roots Rockers were regularly profiled for mainstream rock magazines, and photos such as those inspired this tribute/satire.

After all, this Roots Rocker isn't lost in thought reminiscing about some hot blonde he left behind in a cornfield back in Indiana. He's trying to remember where he left his guitar cord.
