Description This is Reggie, a 5 year old paint gelding. He's young, he's an idiot, he's hyperactive, and he yanked himself away in his impatience to be turned free *with the halter and lead rope still on*. Gave us a heart attack for fear he'd trip on it. And, of course, he ran and ran and ran and there's not much you can do about it in a gigantic pasture, so we had to wait til he stopped moving to approach him and get it off (he was fine, by the way - no tripping). Loved the shot, even tho it has the darned lead rope in it

In case any of you are wondering where his spots are, he has one. It's about the size and shape of a credit card and it's under his belly. So in the paint registries, his name is "I gotta spot".

I'm pretty sure that's Cody behind him.

even with the lead rope, this is a great picture! you really showed how much energy a horse gives off.

Ahh, the heart stopping moments our horses put us though... and yet we cannot live without them - least I can't lol

Beautiful photo

haha, so funny xD My horses are WAAAAY too lazy to do anything like that [except one, and she's wild and almost impossible to catch].. but a while back we were practicing at an arena like 1000 feet [i think.. i'm not too sure but it wasn't that far] from the highway, and my mare spooked [the one mentioned above; though i used to be able to ride her but she was still very nervous] and broke the clip on the leadrop when my dad was trying to load her in the trailer and took off toward, you guessed it, the highway. Holy crap, EVERYONE took off after her, at least 20 people. My friend's at-least-6-foot-tall mom jumped on my friend's 12-hand pony and took off after her we finally got her surrounded and i caught her. Man, it was so scary >.<

yikes! my college's barn was located down a little hill from a road with a 55 mph speed limit, and we did have some escapees head that way a few times. Scary O.o

yeahhh, it's very scary. e.e but see, this was a highway. which was even worse because the speed limit was..what? 80 mph?

It's sooo frightening if such things happen like that thing with the rope. The horse of my little brother broke away that way last year, jumped over a fence onto the feedlot with the rope flattering between her legs- scaring two minutes I had to watch her
in the end everything was okay, but that shock...

MightySquirrel In reply to Tingilyaven [2007-01-06 20:21:36 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the shock is pretty great. At least, if they step on it, they can very easily break the snap. It's just if it got tangled in their legs that the scariness would happen Or a million other possibilities. This same horse tried to jump out of the pasture at a full gallop while almost paralel to the fence line and crashed through the fence and was stuck over top of it once too.

ive had horses do that to me so many times. once i was leading a horse to the pasture
and he was about to bolt. so i unclipped the leadrope and as soon as he heard that he bolted straight forward
and then he bucked right in front of me
but he turned around and ran towards the barn. lol.

Oh yes, the idiot horses. We have many at the barn.. and one day we had 3 get away. One got loose, the other 2 ran off with their leads. Geldings no less... but yes, such fond memories.

oh man this pic brings back soooooo many memories! at my old barn we had TONS of yearlings that did the same and 2 acctualy got away from us with lead ropes on and halters and to make matters worse they jumped the paddock and ran like a half mile down the street! lol ya gotta luv em tho! lmao

Hahaha!! You seem to have all the trouble I have with my mare, Ciel! She did the same exact thing to me last winter. I hadn't clipped her in a while, so I figured I would do it one Saturday. So I turned her out to get out all her nervous energy (she hates clippers) and before I even had a chance to reach for the clasp, she bolted after Rosey and took off!!

Luckily I called her back and she came over looking all ashamed of what she'd done. No scolding, though. I mean, hell, she's a horse, right?!

I like the effect of the rope, another title for it could be "Free" or something like that

Reminds me of my horse so much! My horse is about eleven and gelded now but he still acts like a young green stallion. He's crazy and has run off like the horse in this picture many times. Nice capture.

I couldn't help but start laughing and get all nostalgic after seeing this picture. It reminds me way too much of my Blitz, who was notorious for being an idiot (which, unfortunatly, led to his sell because my parents dubbed him too much of an idiot for me to deal with anymore).

Artistically, this shot is very nice too. I love how the head is in focus while most of the rest is blurred. As for the leadrope... it adds a little bit of a fun flare. Especially for fellow equine lovers who have had to deal with an idiot or two of their own Very nice.

Thanks for the great comment It's nice to know other horse people can relate to and enjoy this photo too Hopefully Reggie will grow up and mature some day (soon, hopefully) because right now life is so exciting for him that he does far too many reckless things He's already found out that he can't jump 5 foot fences (more like two... for that's how high it was after the top three planks came off) and that if he's going at a full gallop, he needs to give himself more than 6 feet in order to stop :: rolls eyes :: He's cute though He tries ever so hard to figure out what you want him to do under saddle.

That is an awsome shot. I love the fact that his face is fully in focus and that his body is out of focus. Really well done Also the way his body is coming into the shot not leaving the shot is truly a lovely quality

This is all to familiar, I still have a rope burn across my hand from my quarter horse attempting the same act as this guy did.

I've got a couple that are that way too, but i wish they would trip themselves (lol). I hate pullers, and unfortunatly it is my 3 year old mare and i wouldn't trade her for anything else, it is a terrile and sometimes impossible habit to break. I have gone through so many halters and leads it unreal. Like the capture!!
