they really did deserve to be this badass, they just held back in ep4 so that they could follow the surviving protagonists to the rebel base with a tracking device. in ep5 they kicked ass, effectively killing off the rebel base on hoth. in ep6 they did a pretty good job of taking out rebels till they were overwhelmed by a unexpected counter attack consisting of an army of pissed off teddy bears with spears and catapults.
