Description
(short vertical line to the right a height of typical human)Big spherical mushroom-like thing to the left - is a creature's back - a reservoir for gathering and pressurizing air.
"Horns" on the opposite end - is a creature's front. They carry sensors, it's eyes and smell elements. Can expel short-range clouds of spores, or launch long-range slugs.
As usual for mushroom folk and for mushroom biome creatures in general, The Great One has decentralized anatomy, without a single brain or heart which you could pierce to bring one down.
The Great Ones are often used as elite artillery in the wars of gods, deployed on the side of goddess of Kindness and Joy and Salvation. They come to the battlefields, shrouded in clouds of best, most potent spores and drugs. Normal foot soldiers who enter this fog are met with hallucinogenic visions; spores grow in their lungs into fluffy pillows that choke them to death. And if use of flesh eater spores is authorised - they would deploy clouds that would dissolve flesh of attackers in a matter of minutes, starting with the eyes.
What makes this tactic viable is that spores and Great Ones are perfectly material things, who do not need an ounce of magic to function. Thus when domains of Gods clash, nullifying wonders and magical creatures, these hulking majestic creatures still walk.
But melee is not a place where they are intended to be used. Their horn can spit stone balls or slugs of metal or capsules, loaded with drugs and spores through the kilometers.
And even more important than their military use is how you use them in peace. The Great Ones planted in the middle of newly converted settlement would help assimilate people in the religion of their Goddess. They use clouds that induce euphoria as means to spread goodwill. It often leads to addiction among civilians. They work as judges and administrators - for horns, or holes in their sides could used as mouths for speech.
Secret:
The Great Ones like many of the mushroom folk, are actually emotional and emphatic creatures, because they were designed so by their Goddess, to understand her more fleshy flocks of followers. The Great Ones care about people around them deeply. They were intended to be creatures of kindness... and that design succeeded. And they are no fools, unfortunately. They see with their own horns and legs how addictions they induce on followers around lead to apathy and idleness and loss of health and relations. It's too easy for the small ones just to come and surround The Great One in circles. Or by a single order rise and march to war with smile to die in happy laughter; or in pain of withdrawal, fearing of never being able to feel the joy.
And Great Ones are too kind. They do not wish such a fate ... And as Goddess still orders them to repeat these things again and again, they follow rules. But their loyalty is slowly dying as their age grow, and a graveyard of the ones they were responsible grow.
