how come an old, worn, peeling layer of paint is infinitely more aesthetically pleasing than a fresh, crisp, new one? how strange things are sometimes.

Interesting question. I haven't thought that much about it yet. First, I guess, for most people actually a fresh layer of paint is more pleasing, but it would not make for a particular interesting picture. Maybe for this photo, the endless layers of fractal patterns and naturally grown structures make it. Who knows... would be interesting to know if somebody has looked into this deeper. After all, there are many fans of this genre (me too)

maybe the organic-looking peels are really what it takes to make it look appealing ^^ we like patterns, after all...
