Description

The Hero class dreadnought was a late wartime development of the Mountain class battlecruiser. With a larger main hull and a much smaller complement of small craft, the Hero class was very much optimized for long range rapid reaction actions, and direct ship to ship combat.

To help with this in the face of immensely maneuvrable Kzinti warships with their gravity impellers, the Hero class had four impulse engines and a large number of thrusters.

Armed with a massive eight photon torpedo launchers, fifteen second generation phaser "strips", and two huge disruptor cannons in fully trainable turrets, the Hero class was massively armed. So massively in fact, that power allocation problems were a frequent headache aboard the early ships of the class.

Very much a wartime design, the first batch of these ships were extremely spartan. Coupled with their engineering troubles, they were unpopular ships to serve on, even though their war record was well above average.
