They're both polite and have good manners. They both speak to main characters (Sol/Ragna) who gets pissed off at the vampires and they know the villain (That Man/Librarius)

I always fancied the notion that Valkenhayn is a very very old Slayer. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, as Valk doesn't seem to hold the sort of clout that Rachel does, but I think it's a bit more original than the father/daughter relationship.

perfect duo right there. Both are pretty much observing and testing the main characters (slayer= sol, ky dizzy and potemikin predominately. Rachel= Ragna, Noel jin/hakuman predominately) The main 'villian' is afraid to fight them (Slayer > that man and Pwab. Rachel > terumi) and the seem to have special bond with the main hero. nice
