Description
This is the last crossover featuring Sonic and Megaman under Archie Comic publishing, and the sequel to Worlds Collide, but this a very confusing, and in some ways misleading, also I find that they choose to release the sequel just a mere two years after the original.
The story revolves how Sonic and Megaman must team up again to stop Sigma from absorbing the multiverse, making him very powerful however this time they’re joined by Comic original characters (Sonic’s Freedom Fighters, and Tempo from the Megaman comics), X, Zero, and Axel from the Megaman X series, Sticks the Badger, Comedy Chimp, and The Beaver from Sonic Boom, and during the last few issues various characters from SEGA, and Capcom examples include; Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, Skies of Arcadia, and Alex Kidd, so it’s trying to emulate the “popular” Marvel vs Capcom series only without the game, and it’s a multipart comic series.
While I don’t think this crossover is terrible, the pacing of the comic ruins it in my opinion, for example Megaman and Sonic get captured by Sigma and are turned evil, then sent into each other’s worlds to start off his evil plan, however it only lasts one and a half issue instead, and its resolved fairly quickly, the number of comics are fairly similar to last crossover being 12 issues, as a matter of fact when we get introduced to non-Sonic/Megaman characters there’s no real build up, they just appear, so I think this sequel doesn’t live up its predecessor.
The only decent part of this crossover is the artwork I feel like the artists outdid themselves here, but there’s not much I can add other than they do their jobs well.
Another reason I don’t find this crossover that good is that, much like Worlds Collide, the plot takes up issues in the two main series, for example in the Sonic series they were trying fix their planet from the Super Genesis Wave, and in the Megaman series they were still following the Classic games, and I’m willing to bet if the series continued we would’ve had a plot that followed Megaman 4, and we could’ve easily gotten more issues from Sonic Boom. I also feel like they should’ve wait a couple more years to do another crossover like maybe instead of copying MvC, maybe work with Nintendo with making a comic adaptation of Super Smash Bros (not the 3DS/Wii U, but the Switchs) were Sonic, and Megaman fight various characters, get into a match themselves, then fight a big bad, but considering this will never be the case it might as well put into cold storage.
Finally I mention how this crossover was misleading, well forgive me for thinking this, but considering how Archie was bringing characters from other Videogame franchises (well Capcom, and SEGA) for this crossover, I thought they were going to try to make more comic series off of these franchises, but considering how they ended both the Sonic and Megaman comics (with the former not given any fanfare), and Archie focusing on their pathetic Riverdale TV show (which as of writing viewers are not happy with both Season 2, and 3), so it’s very clear they’re not giving a fuck trying to adapt other game series into comics.
Personally I find this crossover to be odd; it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, but considering it has the same problems as its predecessor, this sequel kind of falls in on itself especially given how the plot moves too quickly, and gives little focus on the quantity of characters shown. While its similar to fighting game series Marvel vs Capcom, I am unsure if I want to see a SEGA vs Capcom game based on this Comic series.
