Description
A kind of small life cycle of a "fictional" bird I created for my world "White Lantern", the place Morgine's Town exists and the hermit crabs etc. The left sketch was done with pencil and the sketches on the right were in pigment liner. No reference was used, just had large birds on the mind "Ratites"(large flightless birds) in general.Related content

Well,
I usually use very little if any reference at all. For things like this, I know birds pretty well. Though If I tried to draw a horse you'd probably see more flaws since the body structure is a bit more complex with the muscles and bones, both in the face and legs. I watch animal planet a lot, look at references online and books prior to drawing, so I've been building up a visual library in my head slowly over time.
