Description Just as the title suggest.
105 creature thumbnails, all done in pigment liner pens. They're all labeled with a number located as close as possible to each thumbnail in case you want to mention something about one or a few in particular. Or if you think certain ones might look good as a finished product. I have actually finished a few of these as larger detailed finals, some have been posted here already. IE; 77, 08, 11, 49, 86 and 62.

Woooooooow. that is one cool wall of creatures.

I like numbers 12, 50, 55, 61, 72 and 91 the most.

Number 61 reminds me of the alien toys that are based off the movie alien. It was snakelike with cobra webbings on its neck.

These are (going to be) in a comic or an illustrated online novel, right? Right?! *crosses fingers in hopes of a yes*
I've been kinda wondering if some of these are mechanical. 46, 81, 71, 105...
And also if some are plants. 68, 93, 21...
I think my favorite is the one that sticks in my head best, 66. It's like a giant beer-bellied caterpillar man-beast.
oh, and, *faves*

I think 31 came out well too, could work. I think the pose for an underwater creature works well.

I love 56, but they're all really awesome. I especially like the ones that seem to be based on prehistoric creatures (64 , 103 - brontothere?, 57 - pleisiosaur?, 87, etc.).

Similar attributes but none intentionally geared toward a specific prehistoric mammal. I'm sure some prehistory mammal designs worked their ways into a few

Hm,
08, 35, and 36 have really got me thinking about a new direction you could potentially explore if it sounds interesting to you.
Most of your creatures are very much cohesive, or of one body (so to speak).
Would you be interested in contemplating a sentient, mineral/organic type of race that is usually composed of several floating elements held together by lesser and greater magnetic cores located throughout the body?
Sorry, makes sense in my mind but is hard to describe in words. I'm also absolutely worthless in traditional illustration so i can't quite send you a thumbnail either :\

MIKECORRIERO In reply to Inexistences [2009-03-23 00:01:30 +0000 UTC]

Creatures that contain elements of anatomy that aren't actually attached are always interesting. I haven't done too many "finals" based around that concept but I produce a lot of sketches that revolve around the theory.

you should most definatly enlarge 45 and 105!

all of them are great though!

I should really do something like this with all of my thumbnails...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MIKECORRIERO In reply to zypherax [2009-03-22 05:07:36 +0000 UTC]

Thanks,
If I was to put every single thumbnail of a creature I've ever done on one page like this I don't think the file size, even saved for web would fit. It's probably in the Thousands. It really is a great exercise though, I may do it again and break them down into some themed topics (10 for each topic) or something.

45 might be interesting to develop further, I like how it came out with 4 pairs of limbs that aren't for walking "2 up front" and "2 in the rear". If I was to do something with 105 I'd have to do something with the head and an interesting pose.. that one doesn't quite interest me as much. Ones like 18 or 42 have a more interesting body structure or stronger silhouette, though 105 irritates me for some reason lol

She wants to ask if you could help her with designing species for her roleplay site, but doesn't want to bother you.

Thanks,
I'm thrilled that you and your friend appreciate my work. I always hate having to turn down a fan or request of that nature but I'm too busy to barely get enough relaxation time or time to produce personal work, let alone work for "requests". Tell her I'm very sorry.

It sucks and I hate feeling like the mean/selfish guy lol but I only produce work for paid jobs or personal work for myself.

Great stuff thanks for sharing part of you design process. Reminds me of a creature challenge on CA I did a while back it was only 40 thumbnails if I remember correctly. I like your use of thick and thin lines. Do you use different sizes of Liners Pens?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MIKECORRIERO In reply to Mapes [2009-03-22 04:53:21 +0000 UTC]

I do have different size pens, thought I usually just stick with the .05 and use it angled more or less when I want a thicker or thinner line, heavier or lighter etc.

The challenge on CA was 100 colored thumbnails broken up into different categories like "Pink Swamp Dweller" or "Striped Flyer" etc. I had done these as a warm up for that C.O.W. challenge but I didn't have time to go into colored designs. It was a celebration Week for the 100th week.. "100 creature thumbs".

Thanks for refreshing my memory on the C.O.W. 100 thumbnails. I did not finish the challenge as well I got about half way through and colored about 2/3 of the half that I had drawn. Have not done any of there challenges for a while been really busy at work. Thanks for the info on the pens.

Cheers

MIKECORRIERO In reply to MIKECORRIERO [2009-03-22 04:56:16 +0000 UTC]

Actually, remembering more correctly now. I did these "knowing" it was going to be 100 thumbnails, but that was before they decided to break up the 100 thumbs into categories you can choose from. So, although I varied these from alien to flying, land based, water based, quadrupeds, bipeds etc.. I didn't gear them to any of the categories that were mentioned when the topic was actually posted.
