-Bio: Glynn is a jolly and wise old engine known as a "Coffee Pot", an unusually designed steam engine that resembles one, and was known to spurt out rusty water out from its funnel just like one as well. He was first built by the Fat Controller's grandfather, back when he worked as an engineer, and proud creation of their family's legacy. Glynn used to work on the former Tidmouth, Knapford and Elsbridge Light Railway, until this was one of the three that would become the Northwestern Railway in 1914-1915, serving as one of the founding engines that helped to make it what it is today, and was also a mentor of Thomas when he took charge of the Ffarquhar Branch (which also used to be Glynn's). He is a kind, friendly and easy-going old chap with a strong passion for history, and is proud to have been one of the original engines that helped to make the Northwestern Railway the success it is today. He had some hard times though, such as during the Great Depression when the older engines were sold off for scrap, but he Neil and Riley were the very few that had survived into preservation, with Glynn being preserved at the Sodor Museum. He often questioned his purpose while there, especially since he couldn't steam anymore. But after talking to the Fat Controller and Thomas, they decided to have him restored into full working order, and since the Museum's curator is the Earl of Sodor, Sir Robert Norramby, he now works at Ulfstead Castle giving tours around the Estate Railway alongside Stephen and Millie. Glynn is an irreplaceable, hardworking and honorable old engine who remains an important part in Sodor's history, and will always be proud to remain that title for many years to come.
-Artist’s Commentary: Hi everybody! I know that this is a promo that everybody would go ecstatic for, and that is Glynn the Coffee Pot Engine. I wanted to do Glynn for sometime, but finding the pictures was hard. Thankfully, I found some, and made this version of him, and also very soon I will do a side view promo of him and the other engines that work at Ulfstead Castle. And this would be great for the 75th anniversary this year to, but I'm not sure how it will be compared to the 70th anniversary, given the direction the show is in, which you guys know I'm not pleased with, even though I haven't seen any future content from the franchise.
I do like Glynn though, as his appearance in The Adventure Begins really took us by surprise, mostly because the Coffee Pot Engines were only mentioned in the book "Island of Sodor: Its People, History, and Railways" I believe it was called, and seeing a character mentioned from the Railway Series actually appearing as a character in the current series was one of the best moments of fan service we ever had. And when they brought him back for Season 20, it was just awesome, even though I ranted at the fact when it was out on how the Fat Controller was forgetful, and how he could just leave his own creation stranded and forgotten felt a little mean-spirited on the writer's part, and the fact they kept treating the Fat Controller like he would scrap him, even though he's not like that drove me to rage (like he's the big bad wolf). But regardless, and even if I prefer the classic model series, there's no denying Glynn's episodes were one of the best to come out of modern Thomas, and his friendly rivalry with Stephen too.
For my series, I admit while I am making this up as I go, I do intend on not only having Glynn, but to do my own take on his episodes, which will take place in 2014, just for continuity, accuracy, and the other elephant in the room I just mentioned. As I love Glynn, and he is one of the best modern characters in the franchise, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Thomas the Tank Engine is owned by HIT Entertainment/Mattel.
