doubt that most people will see this as a failure,
for obvious reasons. in fact the only thing that seems out of place to me is the hair .it looks odd to me.

I would assume that's his way of watermarking his image, since it appears on all his images at least once. So in a way, I would say it is kind of necessary, although more subtly placed on the edge would work just as well.
