Description Self-Defense Force Type 74 tanks training at the Yakima Training Area in the United States.
Japanese training grounds are too small, so they sometimes travel to the U.S. to conduct firing drills like this.

The Type 74 is Japan's second-generation MBT, adopted in 1974.
Outside of Japan, this tank is often referred to as "STB-1" due to the influence of "World of Tanks" and "War Thunder", but this is very strange to me. STB-1 is just one of the names given to the early prototypes of Type 74, and the Japanese rarely refer to Type 74 as such.

The appearance is very similar to the French AMX-30.
However, it is designed completely with Japanese technology, except that the main gun is a licensed production of the Royal Ordnance L7 gun.

The Type 74 was equipped with an FCS of an advanced level for a tank of the 70s and had excellent fire accuracy.
In addition, it was equipped with a hydro-pneumatic suspension attitude control system that was later inherited by the Type 90 and Type 10 tanks.

There are many family vehicles of this tank, including the Type 78 tank recovery vehicle, Type 87 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, and Type 91 tank bridge, all using the same body.

The Type 74 will soon celebrate 50 years since its adoption. I love this tank.
I hope he will finish his job in peace without experiencing a single war.
