I'm digging your art. I haven't seen this style of art since Alex Ross did batman and superman. Nice work.

This gives the Da Vinci painting a totally new meaning. Mona Lisa smiles because she smells blood.

Really, REALLY good Mike!
I love the pinks and blues in the flesh and bk-grounds here.
I'd compliment the composition, but some art critics have been doing that for
what, over four hundred years now, LOL?

Okay, I'm going to try and choose my words very carefully, because I have tremendous respect for you as a creative professional and I only hope I can have half as much success (one day) as you've already achieved.

But...

When I first saw this over at CBR (or Newsarama), I thought,"Somebody swiped Mayhew's Vampirella castle and used it in their digital mashup!" I immediately clicked the link and looked closer at the art and realized it was your work.

I guess, what is initially throwing me off is the digital blood and the digital cracked oil paint; these elements (in my humble opinion) make the art look less unified, less cohesive. While I'm all for punching something up digitally, I would have much rather you had attempted to do blood and cracking in greyscale values with a brush and then digitally enhance them with red on a separate layer/multply filter etc.

Then we see the cross-hatching on the top of the page, where you typically pick up the ol airbrush). Of course, that's the logo area and on the final printed product, we may not even notice it-- but, I'm holding this to the standards you've established with the innumerable knock out pieces you've done for us thus far.

The last point is the background: That castle is very specific to the Vampirella piece. I have to come clean and admit I printed out both those versions and had them side by side on my wall for a time, so maybe I'm not being objective on that point... But comparatively, this varsion looks a bit rushed.

Anyway, I hope this doesn't come across as a cheap "gotcha" or nit-picking-- I've been a huge supporter of your artistic approach since I picked up the Vampirella stuff you did with Millar. I bear no ill will.

Great work. I'd only change one thing, that would be to make the left side of the background not match the right side, by using different vanishing points as in the original painting. But then again, you're the man, looks perfect anyway. Just a personal opinion.
