lol the reason why the left side is empty is because this was a WIZARD cover. All the featured stuff is printed on the left side of the cover

Does make sense, thanks. But still, a complete balanced work is always best no matter what is gonna be laid on top of right. I mean isn't that what we are all trying to get to, no matter the marketing? Just a thought.

def dude...but i'm not sure if you're familiar with WIZARD's editing process. They're extremely picky. They'll make artists change their layouts 2 or 3 times (prob more)
They actually print the process and edits for the cover. Knowing were to leave a blank space for words, advertisement or word ballons is extremely important, otherwise
A: It'll be a waste of time for the artist cause the whole left side will be cluttered with words and
B: It will immensely throw the cover off if it looks like a cluster fuck on the left side. you know? i would never wanna do a wizard cover lol
most of the pros know the rules for spacing and their prelim sketches pretty hit the mark... but even then, wizard wants an edit.

Hey Mike,
First off, I gotta admit my bias. I love Thor.
The piece is very strong, full of power and energy. Thor looks like he is about to face Jormungand, and do his worst!
Areas that stand out to me as off, or in need of possible adjustment are the hammer and the rain.
The hammer shaft seems to be a little too thin. The massive weight of the head appears a bit precarious above Thors head. With a heavier shaft (please dont read anything into all these 'shaft' references e.deviantart.com/emoticons/e/e⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Eek)" /> ) that would not appear to be an issue. It also seems to be places a little off center (too far forward).
The rain effect on his person is pretty good. The overall rain fall seems like it should be reflecting more light. The rain itself is not very apparent.
I love the overall feel of the piece, and details such as the armour. Those couple things I mentioned would be a pretty easy fix in Photoshop, and really do not hamper the image to any extensive degree.
All in all fantastic work, keep it up!

This would be a very cool costume for movie Thor. It suggests the classic costume while keeping it grounded.

Amazing picture itΒ΄s a FAV^^
But i must say I hope they dont portray Thor like that in the new movie. In comics it works but not on screen.
What I realy mean is.
I hope they stay true to the real norse god of thunder.
With red hair and beard without the winged FUCING helmet

You know after seeing this image over and over for so long I've come to realize that I hate this image. Not because it isn't good, but rather because it's amazing. It has completely scorned my view of all other Thor's and I feel that everyone else needs to up their game a little. Stupid Mayhew and your awesomeness making me feel insignificant. hahah, seriously though this is amazing, I totally love this depiction of the Thunder God, great job.

mikemayhew you make watercolors come to life. But there is only one thing i dont on this "perfect" picture. The Thor's face, in my imagination he is a bit younger. But still, excellent work.

Congrats.. for the paint,, its really good but i also noticed that Thor`s right arm is a little too small for the musculature also the hammer needs a little more detail , any ways i just want to congratulate you for such demostration of talent.. keep it up man ^^!!
