11X17 in pencil, with levels adjusted in Photoshop. This art was done in 1996.Pre-order Zorro: Matanzas, with art by me and written by Don McGregor, coming from Dynamite Comics in February of 2010!

This is my first critique so I hope I do well...
I gotta say that this is very eye-catchy... the shadowing on Zorro it's well developed, makes your sight focus on him first, (which I think it's pretty well done, since he's the protagonist) without leaving out Bernardo making good contrast in the picture. The background is ok, very simple, but with outlines that creates a reality texture. I like the birds and the dead animal detail, giving already to the comic good suspense. Not very sure about the title, maybe other way of arranging words'll make it look better

my only concern is that too much of the horse will be cut out. Like you got a lot of good detail and toning on his muzzle, and the saddle and rope on the white horse (forgive me, I know it not Sancho Panza but I don't remember Zoro having a side kick.) By contrast you wind giving a lot of space to the trees that get cut out by the splash box. It's a great image if you count the bleed area as part of it, but cutting the bleed at the trim area just makes you feel like peeking down the lower edge of the page to see the rest. Makes sense?
It's a great image, it's just the area thatβs designated to be cropped at the bottom seems more interesting than the area kept at the top.

Wow... Zorro rules, and this is a great shot. Subdued. I like it. I've been wanting to do a Zorro pinup myself, and here you have this coming out as a comic! Too cool...

May be form 96 but have you noticed, even today... the outfit for Zorro never gets old? Amazing. and the character itself just keeps looking fresh and grabs your attention no matter what. Great looking cover work man.
