I know this is old, but I just discovered your DA account. And all I have to say is FINALLY! Someone who knows who the real Zorro is!! And includes the always-funny-when-needed Bernardo as well. The original is always best...thank you.
There is but one Zorro...Diego de la Vega!

I am so glad you appreciate it! That Disney Zorro show is my favorite incarnation of Zorro, and we had permission to use the characters and likenesses.

Guy Williams will always be THE Zorro for me, and no other. My mom used to watch it when it first came out and got me started. When we had the Disney Channel and knew we'd have to kill the cable, we recorded as many of the episodes we could on VHS (along with a lot of other stuff).
I don't watch as often as I'd like because I don't want to wear them out, but now I know they have the first two seasons of the Williams Zorro show out on DVD, and so when they get in my price range...
Of course, they will go on my shelf under my Guy Williams autographed photo from the season of the white horse!

Details are great, but I'm just wondering if all the details were necessary? Maybe a more Dynamic Mid-shot would've done the trick for this Splash. It looks like a great opening/setting of a story, but not exiting enough for, say for the middle-splash.
The other negative is that the caption placement looks like an after thought, as an attempt to stay away from the details at the bottom of the page.
Another way to portray this; You can do a cinematic style setting sequence-of-shots on one page, showing all surrounding details placing all the captions strategically forcing the audience to digest them. And for the second page, show all main character's interactions as separate panels, again along with broken captions. All you need are gutters.
As an illustration(caption-less)it looks amazing. Uninterrupted. As a Splash, well, depends on how shocking or exciting those reveling details are to the audience, and how much they're worth as it slows the momentum of the story down. There's really no rules on how to approach a splash, it only my opinion.
I'm not very good at critiques, but I always wanted to give heavy feedback at least once. So here it is.
I love the drawing. It shows hours of penciling and that's dedication.

This is really great. I would love to "Critique" it, but not really sure my gushing over it would do all that much in the way of being constructively critical. I would probably have a bit better insight if I were actually doing work like this professionally, but I think being on the outside looking in, I think you could draw anything like this and I would be amazed. Though that definitely isn't meant to diminish the quality of your work. Whether I'm gushing or not, I think anyone could see your work is top-notch.
I would actually like to ask what kind of reference you use for work like this or do you even use reference?
Also, I take it the skulls are a theme?
Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see these in color.
