Description Update:
This is now a front cover for a paperback, seen here: [link]

It's funny that a piece done admidst artist's block was the imagery that inspired the idea behind my first successful book.

Check the book out [link] and help me get 100 presales so I can see this book on bookshelves everywhere!

...

Surge of inspiration amidst a sea of artists block.

I was thinking about the self doubt I believe a lot of artists feel sometimes. About losing the confidence needed to know what you are pursuing is right, and the reflection of yourself goes out of focus for a time.

This an artist in that stage.

Well, when you can witness something happen within a dream and think to yourself "that didn't make a LICK of sense", but still not realize it's a dream?

.......Yeah.... it's like that.

I like this. It seems to have a fragmented, floating effect. The colors and paint texture look great.

Sometimes there is a painting/concept that leaps out of your brain and you are powerless to stop it. This is such a moment.

Thankyou. It has been a few years now since I have picked up the brush, and the time has come to dive in again.

It's funny that artist's block actually had something good to offer for once!

Thanks for commenting mate.

could you explain me what "artist's block" is? I'm sorry

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MikePomery In reply to Fluegel [2008-08-24 08:04:32 +0000 UTC]

It is simply a term for a creative drought, when you have no inspiration or cannot seem to get your project off the ground, no matter how many attempts.

i enjoyed the piece more before i read the explanation..when u know what a piece is meant to represent it stops the process of wondering and thinking about it,turning art into decoration...rant over.beautiful piece.

MikePomery In reply to saintrad [2007-09-09 01:53:41 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree with that. It is just that so many people want the process simplified for them. This is most unfortunate.

i am so tired of explaining that a piece is whatever the person sees in it...they do want the easy way..maybe art really should be an elitist thing..i dont know...all i know is i refuse to chew it up for them into tiny pieces they can handle

Thanks once more for your support.

This is like the self portrait of the artsit block's despair for me.

I am thinking of framing it in some sort of reflective surface to drive the point home more... when I have the means....

This one was pure creation.. from brain to brush in under half an hour with no planning whatsoever.

I like those ones.

you gonna make print out of it?

MikePomery In reply to artfromsouldesigns [2007-01-18 00:43:33 +0000 UTC]

The square format doesn't work well in prints does it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Talescaper In reply to MikePomery [2007-01-23 16:11:47 +0000 UTC]

Sure it does. I think you can have loads of different sizes for a square print. And you can even have coasters made out of it.

Either way Very nice piece of work. Is that acrylics that you used? And what did you use for the face? I really like your technique here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MikePomery In reply to Talescaper [2007-01-24 05:00:21 +0000 UTC]

Acrylics and ink.. as always. I just added more water with some parts.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Talescaper In reply to MikePomery [2007-01-24 09:44:51 +0000 UTC]

Very nice. So does the ink stick to the acrylics? I have the idea that it would flow right off it, for some reason. (I've been trying to paint recently, so I'm just wondering about techniques that might be fun)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MikePomery In reply to Talescaper [2007-01-25 01:47:22 +0000 UTC]

To be specific, it is actually acrylic artist's ink, so while it does need to be applied when the paint is fairly dry, it is also very flexible.

Talescaper In reply to MikePomery [2007-01-25 12:19:13 +0000 UTC]

Ah that might be fun to try out. Anyway, here's all the sizes you can use for prints: FAQ #132: What are the minimum image sizes for each product? . As you see, there are quite a few square sizes.
