This piece has been part of my to draw list for a while now.I wanted to draw everything I remember and loved from all the classic Super Mario Bros. games, starting with the very first from 1985.
This piece of art has been quite difficult as well as challenging for me because I didn't only use a different style of lining, but I also used a different style of colouring as well as some techniques.
It so happened that it took me a few weeks to finish the artwork.
The capture is based on level 1-1 from the game, with a twist, adding (almost?) every enemy from the game in this.
I also tried to stick as close to the 8-bit design and colouring as possible, which explains why some of the colours don't match with how the franchise looks today.
All in all it was quite nostalgic for me to create this artwork, and I can only say that there's more to come in due time!
For now I will focus on a bit of practice and as usual my long to draw list which highly requires my attention.

I like how matte the color choice is. This drawing gives me the feel that someone was having fun with their art. Rather than just illustrating something to match the modern style of Mario games, it's like you tried to match the original style of the first game, instead. And I gotta love that.
