Number six in the series!
Some people have commented to me asking why the birds wouldn't be in flight trying to escape these disasters. Same reason why humans and other animals sometimes freeze up in the face of danger. Ever heard of the expression 'deer in the headlights'? Take the sinking of the Titanic as another example. There were many documented cases of people who didn't try to escape, but seemed to just seemed to freeze up, and refused to try and save themselves.
I'm not saying that my birds are goners though. No doubt they'll fly away to safety at the last second!

You know I really love this painting. I love the whole series!
It's unsettling without being crass and I like the blank stares of the birds. It leaves a much stronger impression than it would if they were trying to escape and makes all the paintings rather haunting. Well done!

You've made the avalanche so ominous, which it is. Lovely artwork

I love the way the red breast and the blackness of the eye really pop on this one - the detail in the avalanche and the trees below is just great!

Thanks Aries!
Yes I wanted a bright bold colour to go against the monochromatic snowy background. Glad you like it!
