Merry Christmas!

Unfortunately I need to start cutting back on all the commissions. Funds are getting tighter (I was over doing it and not keeping an eye on my finances) and I may end up losing one of my jobs soon.

Oh damn, that's bad Sorry to hear that.  Is it easier to find work there? Fingers crossed for you.

One of the reasons I've stayed with my employer is that it's a steady job in a place where there's not a lot of work.  We employ half of Cardiff really. The working environment is great, the job's good, but wages are rubbish because there's so many people after our jobs

There's loads of work out here... part time min wage ($10 per hr. which is only slightly better than most other states) with no benefits. Plus I don't have a car and public transit here sucks. The only decent place to work at around where I am is General Dynamics' Electric Boat (we all just call it EB), a "defense" contractor that manufactures nuclear missile subs. But I won't work for the Military Industrial Complex.

All I know is that we have new management at Dollar Tree (the old manager was cool and I liked her but she didn't have a handle on things) and now everything's stricter and most of the people I know have been fired or quit. The new people seem to like me though for some reason I haven't been scheduled to work next week... which is a bad sign.

That's unfortunate.  I've seen that happen in the 20 years I've been at my place.  Best people manager I ever had was a woman who was  club 18-30 rep -  she knew how to calm the rowdy ones down and bring the quiet ones out of their shells. Great people person, but she cared about the staff, not the profits

I'm also lucky to live in a small city where everything is central.  You can walk across Cardiff from one limit to another in less than an hour.

I hope things brighten up for you anyway.

Yeah, profits. This is the kind of stuff that almost makes me wish Communism was actually practical. It's not, but one can dream....

I live in what you might call a large town. It's pretty big and developed but also still pretty rural and spread out. It would probably take an entire day or longer to walk from one side of it to the other.

Communism is fine, actually - it's humans that fuck it up.  Orwell pretty much had it right there.  

Kind of like the MarcyVerse Jedi - they actually started out with great intentions... But power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, as they say.

(Actually, one fun thing with role-playing is that you can have non-human cultures who are sufficiently not-human to practise forms of government that couldn't possibly work with humans!)
