Awesome commission by x-Celebril-x !Red Sonja in armor slightly more more conservative (for her) that's based off of one she wore briefly in past comics. My gallery was long overdue for this character!

A good middle ground between her chainmail bikini and fully clothed armor.

Nice, still impractical but still a step up for Red Sonja in protection at least.

'Twas long ago in a distant land.
Personally I would blame Conan for telling her she was overdressed for the occasion, during that long ago comic debut.

From what I had read- and I've read the old Marvel stories- she was living as a thief and was caught by some guy who forced her to wear the bikini armor. It was only over the years that followed that she got used to it and accepted it. I remember there was one Conan comic story where he and Sonja met up and he complimented her -in his usual style- telling her how much he liked the armor- what there was of it. She replied that a Turan soldier once said the same thing just before he made a grab for her.
She hoped he could learn to weld a pike left handed.

It was actually introduced to fans first in a non-canon fanzine by a Spanish artist. I actually have a Journal entry with the data on it's first appearance.
When used with her own comic title, it became popular and earned icon status along with it's wearer. There was actually no story for it's origin until a later tale in Dynamite comics where it was claimed that it afforded her greater speed and the extra distraction factor. There have been various accounts over the years, but never anything that didn't contradict itself later.
