Description
Amazing commission of my Mass Effect OC by Luminaena ! She is based on the likeness of UK athlete Jade Johnson.Captain Cameron Niobe Malcolm, better known as the Hero of Elysium, the Butcher of Torfan and sometimes as "the Heroic Butcher" is an elite Alliance marine with N7 certification and a former member of the shadowy black ops unit the Corsairs.
Born and raised on the backwater Human colony of Mindoir in the Attican Traverse, Cameron witnessed her parents and siblings be slaughtered by Batarian slavers during the Mindoir Raid. Despite being highly athletic since she was little, she was no fighter and was easily overpowered and abducted while attempting to run (her settlement was war far away from the one Shepard was living in). After getting sold to a human mercenary gang operating in the Terminus Systems, Cameron suffered horrible abuse, being brutally and repeatedly raped and beaten by her cruel masters. It is an experience from which she has never fully recovered from mentally.
After several months in captivity and getting rescued by a Turian patrol, Cameron vowed that she would never be anyone's property again and would do her part to make sure the people of the Systems Alliance were protected from the same fate. She enlisted in the military as soon as she was old enough and quickly rose through the ranks as a marine, eventually earning an N7 certification in the same batch of candidates as Akiko Shepard. That is where the two first met.
Malcolm and Shepard became close friends (with benefits), bonding both over their past experiences on Mindoir and their mutual love of women. They were both assigned to the same unit, aboard the old Alliance Frigate Trenton. The two of them would also serve alongside an old but still beautiful Gunnery Sergeant by the name of Sophie Aguilar, who had a reputantion for "preying" on the young new female recuits on her unit. This was a severe breach of regulations, but the 50 year old veteran was well respected and since no harm was done, everyone looked the other way. Malcolm and Shepard were both more than happy to be "preyed" upon by the old sergent, who served as both a lover and a mother figure to them. It was also Aguilar who later convinced the two of them to apply for officers commissions.
Malcolm and Shepard both saw their first official action responding to a pirate raid at a remote civilian research outpost in the Scyllian Verge. The employees and security there had managed to by time and put up an unexpectedly effective ground defense until Alliance reinforcements arrived. When the Trenton (which by chance was fairly close at the time) entered the system, the pirate ships in orbit cut and fled, stranding their several dozen comrades on the ground. About half of them were killed before the rest surrendered. These were Malcolm's first kills and Shepard's first since enlisting.
Later in 2176, the Skyllian Blitz occurred while Cameron (then a Lieutenant Commander) was enjoying leave at a resort in Elysium's capital city of Illyria. The pirate forces had hit each of the the planet's marine garrisons hard in the first several minutes but the well armed civilian population (weapons restrictions being far more lenient in the colonies than on Earth), who quickly formed impromptu militias lead by retired veterans and soldiers on leave managed to do a pretty good job holding the line across the board. Illyria is where the fighting was thickest and with many of the city's marines (including nearly all of the senior officers) killed or wounded early on, Cameron took it upon herself to take command of the city's defense and take part in large scare firefights in the streets. Many medals, both civilian and military were given out to Elysium's defenders for their actions on that day but only three were awarded the Alliance Medal of Honor. Of those three, Malcolm was the only one still living and she would also end up receiving the moniker, "the Hero of Elysium."
Two years later the Alliance raided the massive pirate stronghold on the Moon of Torfan in retaliation for the Blitz. Resistance was surprisingly high, as were Alliance casualties. Malcolm (then Commander and celebrity) and Shepard (then Lt. Cmd) were each in charge of two separate forward units tasked with spearheading the ground assault under the overall command of Major Tobias Kyle. Fed up with the constant and seemingly perpetual slaver raids in the Verge and Traverse and still reeling from her past experiences, Cameron resolved to ensure that there were as few prisoners as possible. She made a pact with the other members of her platoon before the raid began that they would storm through the pirate base as fast as they could regardless of casualties and butcher as many slaver scum in their path as possible (whether they surrendered or not) before they could escape or get taken prisoner by another unit.
All of the Alliance ground units suffered significant losses during the raid but none were as heavy as Malcolm's platoon. Of the thirty-six marines that made up the unit, only eleven survived, of whom four were seriously wounded. Already far ahead of the main force and with Shepard' and Agular's platoon occupied with taking down some still operational anti-air defenses, Malcolm and her six remaining marines came upon band of twenty-two slavers/pirates of various races (including five humans) deep inside the stronghold. Knowing that they'd lost the battle and had nowhere to run, the twenty-two threw down their weapons raised their hands.
Taking advantage of the ten to fifteen minute head start she had on Shepard, Cameron ordered all the captured pirates at gunpoint to remove their armor and omnitools and strip naked. Once they were all lined up and their weapons collected Malcolm and her comrades opened fire on their legs, groins, stomachs and arms which they repeatedly shot in order to prolong their victims' suffering. One biotic tried desperately to get a shot out but it was no use as he was already too badly wounded and in unbearable agony. After a few horrific minutes, Cameron finished off the survivors with some shots to their heads which Shepard (along with Aguilar who was still part of Shepard's platoon) arrived just in time to witness. Shepard and Aguilar both locked eyes with their friend and lover, both clearly appalled. Malcolm on the other hand had a clear look of content on her blood splattered face. This was pretty much the end of her relationship with the two of them.
Cameron, having acquired the new moniker of "the Butcher of Torfan" was never officially charged for the massacre but instead busted back down to Lieutenant and transferred to Mars for sentry duty. The Alliance Military PR Dept. worked to downplay the entire raid and especially her role in it. As a result Shepard would eventually became the Marines new poster child after Akuze. Malcolm had no issue being out of the spotlight but was nonetheless frustrated with her new position. However, then Rear Admiral Stephen Hackett, founder of the Corsairs, a controversial Allianace black ops unit, had taken notice of her and offered a new assignment, which she enthusiastically accepted.
Little is known about Cameron's time in the Corsairs (or about the Corsairs in general for that matter) other than that she eventually reached the rank of Captain while serving with them and voluntarily left the unit not long after Aki Shepard's "death" in the months following Sovereign's attack on the Citadel. She was discharged, neither honorably nor dishonorably from the Alliance Military all together soon after. At that point Malcolm became a wandering recluse, traveling alone from place to place across the galaxy, occasionally stopping to right a wrong she witnessed.
Finally, after nearly three years, she traveled to Earth, the first time she'd ever set foot on her species's home world and spent several weeks seeing as much of it as she could. It was then that Cameron finally acquired the courage to travel back to her own home world of Mindoir for the first time since the raid. However, on the eve of her transport's departure from the spaceport in Madrid, the Reapers invaded Earth. Cameron spent the eight month long occupation helping the local resistance groups coordinate and strike against the synthetic invaders whenever and however they could.
Now, eighteen months after Ascention Day she has been reinstated in the Alliance Marines and is helping to transition the Alliance Military through Shepard's reforms. She has still yet to reunite with "the Savior of the Galaxy" since Torfan but that will likely happen soon.
