I'm trying for the first time to ink in a "dirty" way so this piece will be something like an experiment

Some of the best art comes from experimenting!

That's pretty tight man. You have a talent for detail, anatomy, and perspective. Can't say I'm much of a DC man but Batman was one of their best characters. Or at least, he has the best writers. Robins face makes him look kind of crazy though. What's up with that? Is he trying to catch insects or something?

Thanks for the comments! Yeah, of all the DCU, I prefer Batman...Superman is 2nd. As far as Robin's face, I guess I was going for a fierce Death call!! I mean honestly, how intimidating can Robin really be?? Ha!

Very cool.
Was expecting a gotham city scene in the background but sometimes keepin it simple works just as well. great job. This is a fave for sure!

Yo know, I was planning to add a BG to this sketch, but I was a lil worried that it would crowd it too much. Who knows, I could still add a Silhouette of Gotham City...or something that's not too distracting ( Scratches head). Anyhow, Thanks for the comment and fave! I'm always striving to get better, so keep the comments coming bro!

MikeVanOrden In reply to RCarter [2007-12-02 19:03:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks dude! Send to DC? As to the DCU fansite here on the DA? or the real DC? Actually I've shown my portfolio to DC and gotten some positive feedback. I still have a lot to work on though, But I'm determined go Pro a.s.a.p.!

how'd u talk to the people at DC? did u just send in work, or talk to some people at a convention, what'd they tell you? just interested in learning about it, i have no major plans to turn pro kinda like to set my own hours, be my own boss, even if that means not being pro or well known

MikeVanOrden In reply to RCarter [2007-12-03 20:50:40 +0000 UTC]

Dang! Just noticed this comment! Sorry to get back so late bro! As far as talking to DC or any major publisher for that matter, I go to conventions. Last one I went to was the San Diego Comic Con. Since I live here in San Diego its convenient. One thing I can tell you is that you really need to have Thick Skin. I approached just about eveyone of my favorite artists and most were more than willing to give me valuable feedback. I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that you are always learning and improving...leave your EGO at home. Also, at Conventions, you get the opportunity to have your work reviewed by the Editors and Publishers. So you'll learn what they are really looking for, and believe me, talent is only a portion.

Hope this helped,

Talk soon,

Mike

so u say some of it is talent, what's the rest? and did u ever think of doing any indpendent work, or work with a lower level publishing house to work ur way up?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MikeVanOrden In reply to RCarter [2007-12-04 05:26:20 +0000 UTC]

Talent is very important, but they are looking for people who can communicate a story with sequential art just as equally. Its important to have a strong grasp of anatomy, perspective, light and shade etc. For them its business, first and foremost. As far as independent work or a smaller publisher, if I found the right match, I'd definitely go for it.
